Section Cut Fill Color options

Can we get section colors that correspond to the color of the block that we are cutting through. We have to color all of our floor plans in the planning phase of the project and Skalp is a really buggy program, but does work. It would be much better to have it as a native Sketchup feature.
Thanks!

Currently Section Fill can only be one color. I like Section Cut Face by TIG from Sketchucation which creates faces across section cuts. Then different materials can be applied to the different faces.

Maybe some day that will change but for now, an extension is the only way. Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2020. It’s safe to assume that this feature won’t ever be added to that version.

Thanks for the input Dave. Currently Skalp is automatic, but a very quirky interface. It would be so much better if Sketchup would just make it an option

Yes. I agree it would be nice but until it happens you might try the plugin I mentioned. At least it works now and I haven’t found it to be at all quirky. Here’s a quick example.

Nice work Dave :+1:

What have you done here?

Do those section faces automatically correspond to the sectioned material or have you set them to correspond?

Also, do those section faces remain if you change the components geometry?

Thanks.

Thank you.

The plugin creates faces. I applied the colors to the faces to match the objects they are cutting. If the section cut was inside an object (group or component) and that group or component was painted, the section cut faces would take on that color, too. I paint the faces, not the components in my models so the section cut faces have to be painted, too. In this case I have two different section cuts displayed.

The plugin can automatically update the geometry if you want it to so repositioning the section cut or editing the geometry can be updated automatically. I didn’t enable that for these cuts, though.

Thanks.

I think I will experiment with the plugin you suggested in my eternal search for the best workflow to create coloured section cuts. I’ve previously purchased Skalp and Curic and used both with some success but neither are perfect; so I usually end up using ‘create group from slice’ then exploding the group and colouring each face after using eneroth’s face creator.

Its a long winded method but it always works. The drawback of course is the resulting scenes are not dynamic.

Yes, the Skalp product is somewhat Dynamic, but hard to work with

Curic Section is getting the custom-section-fill job done for me.
