Screw in a hole

Hi I want to place a screw in a hole, how can I center it?

Regards Kostas

I set up screw components so the origin is on the centerline of the screw. Then it’s a simple matter to infer to the center of the holes when dragging the component in from the Components panel.

screw

Thank you DaveR

Now i downloaded some screws from 3dwarehouse but i have an error when i open the attributes table I made explode and then i made component again but i have the same error

What error? You need to be specific.

You shouldn’t need to explode the components although you might need to change the axes position.

Exactly what component did you download? Are you trying to implement it inside a dynamic component?

How are you using these screw components? What is the goal for the model?

Accurate_Drywall_Screws1.skp (120.3 KB)

this is the model

I use it for the connect two panels in a cabinet box

That’s a pretty awful screw. It’s huge for one thing.

And the origin is placed at a huge distance from the model.

How long are you expecting this screw to be?

Resize it to make it usable and be sure to scale the definition. Then set the origin at the centerline of the screw. Since it’s a flat head screw designed to be countersunk flush. I would put the origing at the top of the screw like this.

Who is your model for? Who is the audience? Does the screw add anything truly important to the model?

Please i am new to SKU and i don’t knοw how to resize it Can you show me how to do it?

You can use the Tape Measure tool to resize the model. I drew an edge the same as the diamter of the component to measure just to make it easier to see what’s happening. Click on each end of the edge and then type the desired length.
Resize

This screw is just over 6mm long when it get resized, though.

Again, who is the model for? Do you really have to show the screws? Seems to me you are probably wasting a lot of time for very little return.

Also, you should go through the tutorials at learn.trimble.com and learn how to use SketchUp correctly.

Are you going to fabricate or 3D print the screws? Otherwise it makes no sense having that level of detail if you won’t be able to see the screws anyways. That kind of screws are for wood or plywood and don’t need a hole, you should just draw an octagon or decagon make them components called screw #(whatever you’ll use) so you can reference to them on layout without having a bloated model with a lot of unnecessary detail.

OK Thank you very much for your help DaveR For your questions ,yes ,i want to show the screws and in the OPC too ,for the costing

I am furniture designer and i want to show the screws in my projects

I expect you will find your models become bloated and sluggish but from the various threads you’ve started I guess you are OK with that. Good luck.
