If the geometry has been hidden or if the whole group has been hidden basically.
You can see the effect of these with the 2 options in the “view” menu.
It’s those toggles that are being saved by the scene
Sorry Adam — I’m still unclear about the expected behaviour.
When a Scene is saved with Hidden Objects checked, does it store the visibility state of hidden objects at the time the Scene is saved?
In other words, if hidden objects were not visible when the Scene was created, should activating that Scene later always return them to being hidden?
Yeah, the scene simply remembers what the current state of the toggles are when you create it.
try turning them off from the view menu then creating a scene
Then turn them back on with the view menu and creating a 2nd scene.
You’ll see that each scene will have the parameter applied as it was when you made it.
Hidden geometry or objects will show as dotted lines when they are made “visible” by the toggle.
Thanks - but for whatever reason that doesn’t work for me. Changing Scenes has no effect on hidden geometry. Maybe its because I am working inside a Point Cloud - I will try on a fresh model to see if its my setup.
So for a moment , forget about the scenes part - are you seeing the change when you tick/untick the parameter on the view menu?
If it’s point cloud specific things such as section cuts from SE - I could imagine that not affecting it .
Nor will you be able to adjust point cloud viability via a scene (as this is an extension that doesn’t interact with scenes)
Sorry , I’m away from my computer at the moment, so I may be describing things poorly or wrong!
Yes - it all works perfectly from the view menu. I have just tried creating scenes in a fresh model and it works as you describe, so it must be something unique to do with my point cloud model?
Got it - it only works on Hidden Geometry that is not in a sub-Group.
I should have read the label “Top Level - Hidden Geometry” ![]()

Note also that changes to scene settings do not become permanent until you update the scene. This allows you to try out settings changes and then revert quickly to the original situation.
Hi Adam,
I only just noticed this part of your reply.
I’m guessing you’re referring to Scan Essentials, which I don’t use. My point-cloud plugin of choice in SketchUp is Undet, and one of the things I really value about it is that it does allow full control of point-cloud visibility via Scenes.
One of my first tasks on a new project is to slice the point cloud into the various sections I’ll need for modelling, and I save each of those point-cloud states as a Scene. That means I can jump from a full point-cloud view to a very specific, intricate section with a single click of a Scene tab.
