Your work flow from Sketchup to Layout depends on preparation of scenes in Sketchup. In Layout those scenes are brought in using the “Sketchup Model” panel. I typically will prepare 50-100 scenes. The naming of those scenes is important. Otherwise when you get to layout there is an opportunity for much confusion.
For my purposes I established a series of codes to name scenes. Here are my codes:
I name my scenes using the above codes in a standard configuration
Major Area, Area, View Type, Direction, any clarifying note.
REST CA PLN cashier and greeter ( Restaurant, Cashier, Plan view, Note )
REST CA ELV Frt ( Restaurant, Cashier, Elevation view, Front)
REST CA SEC Rgt Ca-4 (Restaurant, Cashier, Section View, from Right of cabinet Ca-4)
At the beginning of the design process I establish the Front, Rear, Right, Left Orientation of the building and use it throughout the project. Most often the main entrance becomes the “front”. Just one more tool to keep myself “sane”. Geographic directions do not work as well.
