Scaling a DXF file

I received a DXF file from a colleague using a different modeling software. when I import the file and try and resize it I get the following pop up. What do I need to do in order to resize the DXF properly?

Thanks!

Generally it’s best to import the file at the right size to begin with. You can choose the Import Units in the Import Options panel.

Now that you have it imported, open the top level component for editing and then you can use the Tape Measure tool to resize it.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the quick response.

I set the import units to inches just now before I tried importing again. When I went to use the tape measure tool to import I was given the same error and the file did not seem to rescale?

I will attach the file so you can see what im working with.

Thanks,
DXF import.skp (3.2 MB)

Inches don’t seem to be the right import units for what your file shows. What were the units set to in the CAD program?

As I wrote, opening the component for editing will allow you to resize the imported geometry.
resize

I don’t know what any of the actual dimensions should be so I just measured between arbitrary points and made that distance 24 feet.

I would suggest you delete stuff you don’t need from this component and then correct the tag usage. Remember all edges and faces should be untagged in SketchUp. Only groups and components should be given tags.

I would guess that the original file was created using millimeters as the unit so importing it with millimeters as the import unit would probably give the best results.

thank you both. I just asked and the original file was in millimeters.

I thought I had the component opened but I actually only had it selected.

Thanks for the help!
