Rescaling drawing (imported from autocad) - always gives me problems

I follow all the same steps each time, but often - most of the time, when I attempt to rescale the drawing in sketchup using the tape measure tool and the correct measurement - it doesn’t change anything. I do this over and over again… and then sometimes it works - for no reason.
Not working at all atm…
Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I am not sure why it doesn’t work…

The most common reason for this not to work is that you haven’t clicked on two snappable points in the model, so SketchUp doesn’t know what to scale.

hello,
first why do you have to scale your autocad drawing ? if you properly set the units used in your original dwg file in the options dialog before importing, there is no need.

Then, as for the rescaling issue, once you import a dwg file, it’ll be imported as a component that can’t be directly resized with this method. in 2024 version it even says “note that components within the model that were loaded from external files will not be resized!”

what you have to do is enter the component by double clicking on it and now you’ll be able to resize “the active group or component”

Thank you, both very much. I am sure I have clicked on scalable points (a box with an edge).

Yes, maybe there is something funny with the autocad? this autocad file was exported from a shapefile (QGIS) and is in meters, I want to scale it into mm in sketchup, however is way off.

Ahah, so I was exploding the component (or group, or whatever it comes in as) and then selecting all the pieces and then rescaling it…

it is very curious…

if your sketchup model is set to mm, importing your meter set-dwg with either “model units” (if properly set in autocad or whatever the dwg was created with) or forcing “meters” in the import options will automatically be at the right size in millimeters.

exploding the component is an option, but if you just edit it you don’t even have to select everything it’ll resize the whole active context

Thanks, Paul!
