Rectangle and tape measure tool will not accept typed in measurements and these tools are difficult to deselect

If I use the Tape Measure and Rectangle tools and type in a Measurement the model will not accept the given measurements, then it is difficult to deselect these tools. I have tried using different PC’s and starting a new model with the same results. There maybe other issues with it but I cant do much until this is resolved

What browser are you using? Have you tried a different one?

Where are you trying to type?

What happens when you press the space bar after using any tool?

Are you clicking in the measurement box in the lower right corner?
If so, don’t do that.
Select the rectangle tool, click on your starting point, move in the direction you want your rectangle to be, let go of the mouse and type the measurements (use the same separator as you see when moving your mouse after the first click, it’s a , or ; ) then hit enter.
Never click in the measurement box!

I am using a Chrome Book PC. I have tried a different PC using google and edge all with the same result. I am using the tools correctly and entering measurements into the measurement box- not brand new to this. This issue seems to be following my account

We’re not suggesting you are, just trying to help, stating some obvious reasons for this problem.

What happens if you create a new account?

I thought about opening another account. I supose I will need to create another email address? If I do this could I copy my current model accross - I have put a lot of work into this

I downloaded a copy to my PC, then created a new file then uploaded the download into this file. Fixed. Thanks for making me think a bit deeper

That is exactly what you should NOT be doing. You should NOT click in the measurement box. Best of luck with it.

Just saying that the constant then is the user?

Post a screen capture of what you are seeing.

And what are you downloading? You are using the web based version, correct?

Was not clicking the measuring box, entering the measurements in the box by typing after the first click of the tool

Yes, using the web version. I downloaded the model to my PC then uploaded that download to a newly named file in SketchUp. This then behaved normally on the first try, now it has reverted back to the strange original issues

If you want more help, you could upload it here for us to inspect. When bigger than 16MB use something like dropbox and share the link in a post here. Don’t forget to set permissions

You shouldn’t enter into the measurements box. You use the tool, and then just type. Don’t touch the box!

you can type measurements with both the 0-9 along the top of the keyboard , but also with the number pad.

If you are using the number pad on the right, make sure you haven’t disabled it with num-lock

Also, after selecting the tool, start to draw the line or rectangle then enter the measurements.

Thanks everyone for your help, I have been using the SketchUp web version for a while now, defently not an expert but I know the basics of all all the tools and how to add measurements etc.. What I am experiencing is a new problem. It seemed to have happened after I tried to add some geometry to a group with Cut then Paste in place. This happened on my Chrombook PC at home - the the issue followed me to my work PC (same account). I have a model in place that I have put a lot of time into and it has become unusable, I enter measurements but these are not accepted, then it is difficult to deselect the active tool - to do this I need to tap esc multiple times. I set up a new account and immediately was experiencing the same problems. Not sure where to go from here?

I would suggest attaching your model so we can rule out any errors in the model itself.

If this is for your work, you should be using a paid version of SketchUp. SketchUp Free is not for commercial activities..

This all sounds like a problem with your personal setup or the file. This is not a regular complaint or occurrence with Sketchup Free for web. Could be the file but unlikely it would misbehave on separate systems, unless…You have been working on this file for a while, how big is it? If you downloaded it to your PC how big is that file?
