I am new to Sketchup, but have been able to input a measurement for a line or rectangle. All of a sudden, I type the measurement, I see it on the bottom right side, click enter, but line or rectangle will not be the measurement that I typed. I have tried everything I have read about it but have not been able to solve the issue. Any suggestions?
First, you’re working with the web version?
Make sure you aren’t clicking in the Measurements window. If the window is available for input just let go of the mouse and type. You can only enter the length of an edge in the Measurements window while you are drawing the edge so you cannot select the edge after drawing it and set its length in the Measurements window.
Maybe you could record a screen capture video showing exactly what you are doing so we can give you more definitive assistance.
Steps
Select pencil
click on start point
Go on direction of red axis
Let go of the mouse
Type 15’ (not on measurement box)
Click return
Then left click on mouse
Select tape and measure the line. Instead of 15’, it’s 10’ 1 7/16"
I sent you two examples above, one with pictures, and another of a second try, with different dimensions.
I am using Sketchup free. I have always used it and had no problems with measurement input.
What browser?
Here I click and release to start the edge, move the cursor in the red direction, let go of the mouse, type 15’ and press Enter.
I moved your thread to the correct category.
I do exactly what you said. After I type 15 and press enter (return), it does not do anything.
I am using Safari, like I always have.
Try using Chrome and see if you get different behavior.
Ok, thank you so far.
Great, I tried Chrome and it works. Thank you!
Good deal. That would imply that there’s been some recent change in Safari that affects the way this works in SketchUp. Historically Chrome has been more recommended for use with SketchUp for Web than Safari but if you prefer using Safari, keep your eyes peeled for updates to Safari. Maybe it’ll work again.
