Really bad flickering flashing when moving around while running 2026 pro

I was on 2025 an hour ago and it was working fine, then I downloaded 2026 and with a new and basically empty model I’m getting constant flickering and flashing when moving around, whether I’m using the new graphics engine or the old one – I was using the old one for the 2025 version because of issues in layout. I’m running a 2 year old machine with Windows 11 Pro and a NVIDA Geforce RTX 3050 TI laptop GPU. I set the system to only use the graphics card for this program just like I had for the 2025 version.

Can you share the model file?

vanity area.skp (1.7 MB)

I just used a default template, the file is practically empty, and it was flickering from the first box i drew

I also cheeked the model i was working on earlier in the day that was working fine on 2025 and it is doing the same thing

We’ve seen examples of this sort of thing when the model or part of it is placed at a huge distance from the origin. Not the case in your model, though.

I would suggest 2 things. Go to the Nvidia site to download and install their latest drivers for your card. Then repair the installation of SketchUp. Find the installer in your Downloads folder, right click on it, choose Run as administrator, and then, when prompted, choose Repair. Do a cold reboot of the computer after that. Then start SketchUp and open the model file. See if there’s a change in behavior.

FWIW, there’s no flickering or flashing when I look at your model on my machine.

It worked OK for me too. Just a thought: does the flickering occur only with the style that is in use when I open the model, or with all styles? The sketchy style is somewhat complex, with a watermark and sketchy edges.

Another thing: Is SketchUp using your Nvidia graphics or perhaps the integrated graphics in your CPU? You can check in Preferences>Graphics

I did all three of the updates and I’m now running the current graphics driver, I ran the installation repair and restarted my machine. I’m still getting the glitching and flickering when I first start up a file or if I change scenes or if I change the display format from say hidden line to any other option or from a section cut view and then turn off the section cut.

It is only glitchy for about 5-10 seconds while I’m rotating around and then it seems to memorize the model view as is and quit glitching out. This is the case with both the classic graphics engine and the new engine.

More worrying is that It also happens for the same 5 to10 seconds when I draw new objects.

FYI I bought the computer in November of 2022 so I guess it’s now 3 years old, but like I said there were no issues running the 2025 version – maybe I should just try to get a get a down grade back to 2025, though I’m not sure how that works with a subscription…

oh and yes my graphics setting for sketchup is set to the NVIDIA card

So did a couple additional restarts and played around with models trying different things and then got a bugsplat. When I restarted SketchUp I had lost all my setups for toolbars and such and it again wanted migrate extensions from 2025 that I don’t use, but it seems to be working better with the glitching graphics but it is still kind of flickering when I’m rotating models i.e.. instead of being a smooth motion, it’s moving in small stuttering steps

Well i guess I’ll take that back,I just went back to it and is was glitching out again…

Do you have a high resolution mouse and have you updated the mouse driver recently?

Regarding the graphics driver, I can only suggest trying the other edition (Studio vs Game Ready).

Copilot suggests:

Try disabling “Hardware‑accelerated GPU scheduling” in
Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Default graphics settings
(if you want to know what HAGS does ask an AI)

Setting Power Management mode to prefer maximum performance in:
Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Global or Program Settings.
(This is supposed to prevent GPU downclocking during model orbits.)

Other users have found system updates keep resetting hybrid graphics mode back on. This cause all display to pass through the integrated Intel GPU. It is called different name depending upon laptop brand. (Hybrid, dGPU, Optimus, etc.) You may need to make this change in the BIOS settings.
Your machine will run hotter, consume battery charge faster and some power saving features may not be available.

Yes, I’ve seen things where a single component in the model is placed a long way from its own axis axis when you get the component. The one I saw this with was imported via the RVT importer and all objects had some kind of local coordinates they had inherited from there

I tried your file and couldn’t get any bad performance. You’re using watermarks, I wonder if that acts badly on your computer?
