I’m struggling to model a realistic door window, my attempts just aren’t coming out right. Door and window modeling has always been a challenge for me, especially getting the inside of the window/door to look real.
If someone could walk me through the process or even take a look at my file and help adjust it, that would be amazing!
There are like a hundred things you could do. Here are the first things that I think of:
Model the edges and show the framing more realistically. Lots of ways to get there.
Add a HDRI or photo of the exterior environment.
Figure out how to use a dirty glass texture, or use a blend material in VRay.
Choose an interesting light direction and source.
Show more details in the interior walls.
Model the wall and exterior grass.
…
It looks to me like you’ve got it pretty accurate. You could try adding a bit of a sheen to the vinyl material in the enscape material editor. Usually just turning down the roughness works for me. You can also add the hinges and operator. The glass in the window would look more realistic with some kind of background for it to reflect off of. If you don’t want to model a whole exterior landscape you could try just importing a skybox.
When I modeled all of my windows I found a spec sheet from a window company and used exact measurements to create the components. They usually give a decent amount of information.
If you want a gap to be seen in rendering, you need to create a gap of about 1/8. You will quickly realized you need to exaggerated the reality a little bit in order to create realistic rendering. On your real window, the gap is probably very small, like 1/32" or simply a tiny chamfer. In a rendering, you’ll need 1/8 at least to replicate it.
By the way, apply the same rule to texture. Exaggeration is often necessary.
