What are you modeling that needs a hinge? What kind of hinge?
Hi Dave,
I dont know if you know what this is but i want to make my own track saw hinge for an MFT top.
Similar to this.
This one prints the whole thing in place in the way its orientated in the picture. Once printed you have to ‘snap’ the hinge to break any unwanted bonds between filament then it hinges nice and snug which is what i need. No slop and fairly stiff.
i was considering making in 2 seperate pieces and putting my own pin in but ideally would need a pin that is only threaded at the ends the right length then i could tighten lock nuts to my prefered stiffness and need to get the hole sizes perfect so no play.
But then i thought well if its possible to print in place why not try that.
I’m guessing the hinge is made with basically a row of ball joints with a tiny bit of clearance between the ball and the socket. If you were to use a pin, you could certainly model a more common type of hinge and use a piece of threaded rod (or thread a piece of music wire) for the hinge pin.
I’m afraid I don’t know of a specific tutorial on modeling this, though.
