Purge continues to crash SketchUp

Just an update…I tried to reinstall as administrator as you suggested. That led to other odd error messages which I’ve attached. When I tried to reinstall without administrator priveleges, I got the COM surrogate pop-up again.

At this point, I’m bamboozled. Should I just revert to SU 2024?

Did you do as I wrote? Did you do a cold reboot of the computer before repairing the SketchUp installation?

Wel

l…good morning!

I’ve done multiple cold reboots. Each time I tried to repair, I got these error messages (sorry..let me attach this time). So, even though I could see the installer in explorer, Windows Installer couldn’t find it, even when I manually typed in the path.

So, I downloaded it again without admin priveleges last night so I could attempt to finish a very small project (without Enscape) and it was ok. This morning, I thought I’d try once again, to tried to uninstall (which led again to the Com Surrogate error pop-up).

As an experiment, I just downloaded SU 2024 and that seemed to download cleanly. I’m going to try working on and rendering that same model now and see if it crashes.

This might help, Windows issue

I’ve tried about a third of those solutions…guess will need to keep plugging along. My question for you is: several of these solutions suggest issues of compatilibility with third party software. Does SketchUp have any other reports of this error message. I only get this error message with SketchUp upon installation…not with any other program or process. From my research, it seems if it was a systems-wide problem, that I would note issues with other programs.

@colin Can you answer this one?

If you mean the com surrogate message when running the Windows installer, I only see that sometimes, and that’s because I am frequently doing different installs. There is an option in the installer to let you ignore it, and that seems to work without any problems.

How does didieterrich2 enable the option to ignore?

Thanks for the troubleshooting..I also dont see this option to ignore.

So, I’m actually getting this error code when trying to uninstall SketchUp. I was doing this first as a trouble-shooting step to see if reinstalling the program would help. I got it again when trying to run the SketchUp repair program as an administror. Here I’m seeing it again when trying to uninstall SU 2024 (which I tried this morning in a bit of desperation)

I was able to disable it in task manager (which might be what Colin is referring to). Then when I tried to install SU 2025 as an administrator as suggested by Dave, I got the other error messages as shown above in the string.

And just as another trouble-shooting step, I ran a System File Checker scan in Windows which didn’t turn up anything amiss.

This is the kind of thing I see when people use CCleaner or other similar type things.
I think they do more harm than good.

To solve your SketchUp installation/uninstallation issue may be helped with this microsoft troubleshooter

Hello Adam! Think I met you at a SU conference once.

I followed some past instructions from the Microsoft help site to disable COM surrogate through taskmanager to allow me to remove the old version. Then I downloaded the new 2025 version, using the “run as administrator” option which worked this time. I still haven’t been able to test this, and need to go teach a class now. I’ll let you know what happens (and what Enscape’s help line has to say.) Again, it’s the interaction between SketchUp and Enscape is when the crashing occurs. Thanks!

On the Enscape toolbar there is a support button - you can send logs to Enscape (a bit like when you send a bug splat to SketchUp) you can ask them if they can see why it might be crashing so often.

After clicking Ok on that screen, there should be a dialog letting you ignore COM Surrogate.

It may be that I saw the issue too when Enscape was installed.

Yes…I am working with Enscape also. Do ya’ll ever work together to solve issues?

Diane

I would make a fresh install of Windows, that will delete all the trash files or softwares that aren’t letting you install sketchup 2025, it’s not necessary to get an antivirus or other programs that “help” to optimize performance, windows defender is more than enough unless you visit some *** websites or download cr@cked software.

Yea! We did , hope you are doing well.
