I haven’t used sketchup for a few weeks. I came back to one of my models and was modifying it, when I started to run into a problem with the copy/move function.
I select an object, hit “m” then “ctrl” to invoke the copy/merge function, then click on the object to start the copy/move. At this point sketchup will stop responding to any mouse activity in the model. I can change tools or look at the various panels on the right, but I can’t interact with the model in any way. If I leave the model and return, the problem persists.
If I close the browser window and reload the app.sketchup.com url, then things work again normally until I do the next copy/move. Then the problem returns.
I tried creating a new model. I had no difficulties at first. I copied a few of the components in from my original model. After a bit more work on the new model, the same problem appeared. With this new model I am again in the position that everything works normally up until I try to copy/move any component, at which point it gets stuck again.
This was reported already. The team is aware of it and will be working on a solution. The problem occurs with objects that are nest 3 or more levels deep. The current solution would be to explode the upper level groups/components to eliminate the nesting.
With it being the holidays, it may be that the developers won’t be back in the office until January 2nd.
Thanks for the quick reply. With your problem description I found a simpler work-around. I create a new instance of the object at the top level of the model, and edit that. Once I’m happy with the edit, I can delete the top level instance leaving the changes in the lower level instance.
I never intentionally nest things, but I found that when I use native tools that objects become nested in strange, unintentional ways. So now after using native tools, I will check out equity info and inspector to see if I have nesting. I’ll explode what doesn’t belong and fix what needs to be fixed.
