When hitting “Save” on my model, I have been getting this error code the last few days: CFileException0. See screen shot. When this occurs, I cannot save my model. I tried saving my model as a new file, but the problem is reaccuring. Yesterday I thought I managed to save my file, but when opening SketchUp today, SU asked if I wanted to open my Recovered file. The recovered file was the last version of my model, and it had not been saved when I tried to Save yesterday.
yet you now have one.
It is not recommended saving on a cloud service (except the one integrated in sketchup), nor removable device : usb drive, external drive etc.) It may lead to the error you get and even worse corrupt your file and make it unreadable.
Save on your local hard drive and copy to your dropbox afterwards.
Personnaly, I use google drive and it is set to save several chosen folders that remain on my hard drive, it is synchronizing as soon as it detects changes. See it as an automated copy routine which is safer than directly saving on an impalpable space
Thank you for your reply.
I saved it locally now, and that did not cause any problem. Thank you for your advice on how to automatically syncronice. This could mean I have to change my whole work flow… (But that is another issue.)
You need to be careful of this too, there have been many files corrupted during an autosync. The problem appears to be when you get an autosave and an autosync at the same time. You can go your whole career without an issue, but it does happen.
I have to admit that I am a little confused on how to set up a functional workflow between 2 computers if it has to be saved locally first. If I have to save locally, won’t the source file for a file in LayOut be the initially locally saved model? And what happens if I syncronise my model to i.e. Dropbox, open it on my portable Mac, and then have to make changes in my LayOut drawing? Will LayOut then get trouble, because the source file that the original LayOut drawing was based on, is not stored locally on that portable Mac?
The best solution for you is by using Trimble Connect. Your files are online but you can have a local copy synchronized. You can also recover your model for each previous version.
