I am having a issue with items in my scrapbook that came from previous versions and have used for some years. On the attached the red rectangle items are not allowing me to snap dimensions to their edges though as you can see it was possible in previous versions.
Has something changed or am I doing something wrong?
Another issue with Layout that did not happen in my 2023 version. Setting the output resolution, I keep changing it from HIGH to Medium and saving the files. When I open the files again its set back to High. Is there a change on how to save rendering output?
I can replicate the issue and confirm your workflow works in 2023.
However I would not do what you have done – as Dave alluded to in his deleted post – draw a proper scaled object that represents what you want to represent and then annotate and dimension it.
But hey – there may be a really good reason why you are doing it this way…
Time saver for the user,
I had separate items at some point in the past. Then I found I can make one item and change the size to fit different conditions (which this is made for) without having to taking the time to change 2 items every time I use it, (size it recenter text, etc.). and it worked well, till now.
I try and find ways to optimize the way to use Layout so I can focus on the work/design and give it the time it needs.
I started with 3D Max back in the day, it was a lot to work to create and change designs. I fell in love with SketchUp because it allowed me to concentrate on designing and make changes quickly and more accurately. I hope that Layout can help to make annotating faster for the user in future version and adopt some of the changes users have been asking for.
There is another issue with not being able to snap to the text box (Stroke), even when it’s not visible. In 2023 and below I use that to align all my text.
It looks like as part of alpha feedback in the 2024.0 release, we disabled connecting dimensions to text entities. This was in addition to preventing them from connecting to other dimensions, labels, and faces.
I’m not sure I understand this statement. I seem to be able to find inferences to the text bounding box for alignments. You could also select the two text entities and use the Arrange (or context menu) > Align > Left menu item to make sure they’re aligned.
