Please help me! "This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!"

Hi everyone, I am having a problem to open my file that I worked yesterday. I can’t open it today and it said" This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!" I tried to renamed and tried newest version but I cant open it. Is there anyone here can help me please? Thank you!

For sure we can’t help unless you share the .skp file. Upload it to DropBox and share the link.

Where were you saving the file as you were working on it? Did you look to see if the .skb file can be opened? Your forum profile indicates you are using SketchUp 2024 so you should have a current subscription. Were you also saving a copy of the file in your Trimble Connect storage?

I am trying to upload it, im new here so, how can I share the file with you?. I saved it in my drive, I did not save in Trimble as well. I have 2 files crashed down, but one worked after i renamed, one did not

Here is the file, I renamed
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/lcmz25fgc2bwcjhgnnn0e/kitchen.skb?rlkey=35j9w9hjqn0yqrn7ydq0xynsa&st=2gvxaxpv&dl=0

What drive? A cloud drive?

You should be taking advantage of your Trimble Connect storage. It’s part of your subscription. Or are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp?

The file you shared it not a SketchUp model file. It doesn’t even have the SketchUp header. There’s nothing to recover in that file.

I saved in my ssd drive
I have it here, may you try to see is it a right one

I bought a student plan, the trimble, I tried but it keep telling me to update to use it.

Is that an external drive?

The file called kitchen.skp is like the previous file you shared. It is corrupt without even a proper header. The file kitchen1.skp is missing important information. I couldn’t do anything with it although @colin might be able to get something from.

I don’t understand what this means. When did purchase the license? From whom did you buy it? Are you actually a student?

At this point, if you need the model, I would suggest that you get busy recreating it. No point sitting on your hands waiting for a miracle. Going forward save the file to the internal drive on your computer and save a backup to Trimble Connect.

I am in college majoring in interior design, I bought it from sketchup website with my student id. I am here just to see if someone know the reasons of this error. Of course I am building it again too, If you here to help, very welcome. But the way you response is very bad.

I’m sorry that you misunderstand when someone is trying to help you. I am trying to help you but there’s nothing that can be done to fix your files. I’ve given you that information and suggested that you make sure you are saving your file correctly on an internal drive and use Trimble Connect to save backup copies so this doesn’t happen again.

As for the reason this happened in the first place, there are a number of possibilities but there’s no way to tell for sure. Saving internally and saving a backup in your Trimble Connect storage is a way to help prevent it from happening again.

One of the files was missing important data. The other one had everything it needed in the file, but also had some extra data before and after the normal model data. That meant I was able to isolate the part that was needed.
