In a variety of other software programs I use, Ctrl + G is the keyboard shortcut used to make a group out of selected components and I do like consistency between software interfaces.
You can change your shortcuts to whatever you would like by going to Window > Preferences > Shortcuts
No need to wait for a feature request to be implemented. Just make Ctrl+G a keyboard shortcut for Make Group.
