I’m on a MacBook Pro. Trying to pin the Tool Palette to the far left of the screen to give me more room to model.
If I move the Palette far left, it jumps back about 2" to the right. I can drag it using the title bar all the way to the right of the screen and it will stay.
The screenshot below shows the furthest left I can drag the Palette.

are you using Stage manager ? the thing that can stack your windows on the left ?
if you go to mac os preferneces, then desktop/dock, you can see if stage manager is turned on or off.
if it’s on, turn it off, restart your computer, and try again.
thinking of this because that’s the place stage manager is supposed to work, and since sketchup uses mac os’s interface tools (and rules), I could see this as a problem like the one you describe.
