Pieces left behind when models from 3D warehouse moved

Hello,

My model was too big(21.6 MB) for dragging in. I suspect

you can solved my problem without it.

Attached are 3 screenshots of an easy chair downloaded from 3D Warehouse. I click on it and the whole thing was not selected. So, I triple clicked it & made it into a component with a tag.

After that I tried moving it & 2 parts of the easy chair were left behind. What went wrong?

PS Picture #1 is the easy chair before it was selected. #2 is of it after being triple clicked. #3 is after it was moved.

I noticed that there are groups with blue bounding boxes inside the edit context (dotted lines) in the first two screenshots. My guess is that there are nested groups copied on top of one another. That is why it is recommended to open warehouse stuff in an empty file to clean up the problems before inserting into a working model.

As you can see in the second screenshot, the things that didn’t move are not selected!

I suspect they are groups and triple clicking on the loose geometry of the chair did select all connected loose geometry but not the groups as intended..

A window select would have selected all loose geometry of the chair plus the groups..

Next time download items from the 3D warehouse in an empty SketchUp file and clean them up before using them in your model as @Royce said.

Thanks guys. Thanks to you I’ve made four copies of the easy chair that appear to be in proportion to the size of the pool table. I now feel very confident about using 3D Warehouse.

That’s another thing to watch out for when using the 3D warehouse. A lot of things are not to real life proportions. Either too small or too big. When opening in a new file you can easily spot it if you still have the scale figure in your template..
