I know this was asked years ago, but it is still valid in 2025. When an object is hidden in the Outliner, the light grey text is very hard too see. Is it possible to make it more visible?
I used to have that problem, then I got somebody to adjust the colours on my monitor using a special bit of kit, cant remember what is was called but I can find out. Now my monitors are so much better.
This is a screenshot of my Outliner. How does it compare to what you are seeing?
Thatās what I see, only my grey text has even less contrast. Itās the same on two different monitors on two different computers (Windows 11 PC). You can click on the grey text to make it more visible, but that is not an ideal solution when you have 100+ items in the outliner.
This extension doesnāt dim names when toggling visibility: Outliner Options | SketchUp Extension Warehouse
That extension opens a new Outliner window which does what I want and adds extra functionality like tag status. But, I canāt see any way to order groups and components in alphabetic order. Is there one?
click on the small symbol top right, and sort by name.
however, in the outliner, youāll (always) have a separation between the components on top then the groups at the bottom of the list. well, no, the sections are below the groups. but you get it.
On my screen that symbol is not there, it must be because I added it to SU2024. Iāll upgrade and try again.
Sorry, confusion here, I meant that the order in which groups and components appear in the extension seems random, so its usefulness is very limited. I wanted to see the things in alphabetic order like the standard outliner.
Ah, my bad, yes, re-reading your message itās clear
well, @3DxJFD is the mind behind, maybe he can add a little something ?
I saw that discussed yesterday in another thread and added it to a new version of the extension. Sorting A-Z, Z-A is doable. Iāll submit a version with that and observers (no more Refresh button) to the Extension Warehouse soon.
Are there any other sorting/filtering features you think would make the extension better?
Yes indeed ! If it could show us all the objects that are ifc classified and sort by ifcClass thatād be the bees knees
Iām creating another version of the extension⦠Do you have a sample file you could share?
You could try this one, it has a bit of everything.

This is a really cool model. No tags, just Outliner. I kind of like that .
Iām rebuilding the Outliner Options extension right now. Iāll update here when it is submitted/when I hear back from the Extension Warehouse.
As far as my comment about another version, I should have been clearer. I meant another extension, āOutliner Objectsā. It is like the Outliner Options extension but with more searching/filtering/display options. I was hoping @paddyclown had a file using IFC that could be shared.
Iāll look forward to your new extensions. This model is very much a work in progress, in fact I had to delete quite a few components just so I could download it to this forum. For me, tags always come last for some reason.
Ah. Do you usually just toggle show/hide in the Outliner while modeling? Rely on the āhide rest of modelā setting?
If you add tags at the end, do you then use those for Scenes?
Well for what itās worth I just toggle show/hide as I go along, which is why alphabetic order is useful. Then I group components into appropriate assemblies with ASSY at the end of the name. For me, tags are always an afterthought, even when I know how useful they can be. I very rarely use scenes.
Makes sense to me.
I had a wrestling match going on for a bit re-working the old code. But hereās A-Z sort in action:
I need to work the code some more to get a better layout. FYI my previous comment that I tested A-Z earlier. It was easy to add to the newer extension (Object Outliner) but that extension is like version 15 of this one! It doesnāt have the Outliner Tray/panel look. So, I had to fuss around a lot to get a sort of version 2 of the extension you are using.
Iāll be spending some more time on this today to get it ready for EW⦠so if you have any other thoughts on additions let me know.
