SketchUp versions between 2018 and 2020 offered the functionality to import models hosted in Trimble Connect, maintaining a clear distinction through layers (now Tags). This separation allowed work teams to maintain individual control of their contributions, avoiding interference in the main model and facilitating updates in the cloud.
However, SketchUp 2025 version introduces a significant change in this workflow. When importing a model from Trimble Connect, it is indivisibly integrated into the main model, eliminating the ability to separate and control individually. This merger is also reflected when saving the model, consolidating all contributions into a single file.
Improvement Proposal:
It is recommended to reintroduce the individual control functionality implemented in previous versions of SketchUp. This measure would allow teams of professionals (architects, engineers, etc.) to integrate their models in SketchUp while maintaining autonomy over their respective parts of the project.
Expected Benefits:
- Efficient Collaboration: Facilitate simultaneous collaboration without compromising the integrity of individual contributions.
- Improved Version Control: Allow independent updates and modifications, minimizing the risk of conflicts and errors.
- Optimized Workflow: Streamline the design and construction process, improving coordination between different teams.
