Opening Problem

Hi everyone, I have been experiencing an starting problem of Sketchup 2026 for Windows 11. When I double click the Skp file, Sketchup pretends to start but It does not start. I see a window for 0.5 second and suddenly It close. When I try to start Sketchup 2026 app directly, I can start it. Could you help me about this problem please

Best regards

If you open SketchUp, start a new document, then open the model you want to work on from the File menu, is that successful?

Yes, after I start the Sketchup application I can open a model (skp) from the files menu. I have this issue when I try to start a model directly

There may be something in the model that relies on an extension, and extensions are initialized while the first document is opening. Could I try one of your models that shows the problem?

Sure I attached one of the models that shows the issue. Generally all models show the problem.

Franchesca Kitchen Cabinets.skp (8.2 MB)

FWIW, your file opened fine via double click for me.

Do you also have an older version of SketchUp installed? Windows might be stuck to trying to open SketchUp models with that one. I have that problem - nothing can persuade my Windows to not try to open my models with version 2022, if I remember right.

Probably my desktop needs to be rearranged.

@Anssi Sir I use Sketchup Studio 2026 version. For all models, the issue same. I could not figure it out. I reinstalled the Sketchup but It is still same.

Do you ever see the bugsplat window? If you do, could you send in the report?

I have never seen a bugsplat and any report. This is so weird I could not understand what happens. This issue makes me mad

These hangs on opening , crashes with a flash of a window then nothing. Most frustrating is whn it works one day then the next it hangs on loading up. When all you want to do is a quick job and SU is not behaving… such a massive shame

Hi again Dear Sketchup Users, after long efforts I found the trouble but, I can not solve it  . As you know Sketchup needs to verification of license in background for every launch. For this reason this verification process encounters something in computer and It causes to shut down of Sketchup. When I try to sign out Sketchup, I can open any kind of skp models with double click. Is there anyone who knows the solution about this situation.

There was a fix for that crashing issue, but I haven’t yet found a release notes that mentions the fix. You could make sure you’re up to date, to get the fix.

To manually fix the issue, delete this file:

%AppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2026\SketchUp\login_session.dat

It is actually one folder up at:

%AppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2026/login_session.dat

Thanks, I copied the path from another post without double checking whether it was right.

This issue is not unique to 2026. Same thing is happening for 2025 version. Sometime is takes several attempts to open up a model and sometime it opens the first go-around. I assume this is tied to one of the installed extensions however, locating the problem extension does take some effort.

If you have plugins installed, it’s always best to start SketchUp first and then open the drawing you want to edit or view.
That way, you can be sure the plugins have loaded correctly, and you’ll run into far fewer problems.
You can open your file from the startup menu, but it’s even better to open a “blank” document first and then open the drawing.
Once SketchUp is open, you can open any file you want by going to File > Open.

As a SketchUp instructor, the first thing I teach my students is: never open a file by double-clicking it.
