Opening "Extension Warehouse" in SUMake16

Barry,

I tried this; when I clicked on “Add Location” it responded with the “U need an internet connection —“.

I have also tried changing the internet test in SU to just Google.com without /ncr and get the same message when going to Extension Warehouse.

Bill

So open Edge and go to Google and what do you get?

Thanks Barry,

Sorry for the delay, I got tired of messing with the computer and gave up before I got your email.

When I open Edge and put in the site, I get google.com.

Bill

Well, that’s the site that we ping to verify you’re online. So I’m not sure why SketchUp would think that you’re not online if you can get to it from other windows. Try again.

Same result again. This is really weird!

Bill

“When you typed that url, confirm that you typed https and not http for me, please.”…

EDIT: scratch that - in i18n.dat that we’d ask you to change if it wasn’t working, we’re going to http not https. What happens is that Google (at the location I’m at) then redirects me to http://www.google.com, and then to Google I’ve seen IE and Edge sometimes barf at this http & https redirecting, depending on a user’s network settings.

So if you can successfully go to Google

I copied and pasted the url you sent. I’ll do it again and be sure.

Bill

I have confirmed that https was used and the site is google.com.

but the question is: if you put in Google does it work? I’ve observed in some set of security settings (and especially around Google urls) where starting at http and flipping to https will cause Microsoft to complain about certificates. It’s been more with AddLocation than Extension Warehouse, but it does happen.

I’m about at rope’s end here with things for you to try… if I had a dime for every crazy networking issue I’ve had to fix…

Now it first goes to Google then when I click on the pop up telling me about a secure site, it goes to: Google https://www.google.com/?gfe_rd=ssl&ei=CrTxVpHQLYOr-AWIgq_QCA &ei=CrTxVpHQLYOr-AWIgq_QCA

What the heck is that?

That’s Google redirecting you, with some params so it’s duly noted. The fact that you did get there is the important part. I would still change i18n.dat to some web site you know you hit reliably without redirects… even just doing https://www.google.com/, or your company or well-known local site. It’s located in i18n.dat, because that’s a file for Internationalization, and some countries aren’t as friendly to google urls, so we have the ability to change it based on language that SketchUp was translated to.

I’ll try another URL. Thanks

Barry,

I changed the i18n.dat to Yahoo.com and still get the same results. This is exacerbating! I’m not sure what to try, maybe go to the Windows 10 community for help although I’ve had nothing but problems since going to Win10 from Win7.

Thanks for your patience and continuing to help.

Bill

Barry,
I decided to try again to open Extension Warehouse and 3D Warehouse after our previous marathon. I’ve tried so many things that I can’t keep up with them but I have finally managed to make it work. On thing I did was to list Https//*.sketchup.com in my list of approved sites (never had anything in there before) and the other was to change the i18N text to Https//www.Yahoo.com. Since I did it simultaneously I don’t know if it was one or both but I’m not going back. Thanks for you help and patience; now to some woodworking.
Bill

Barry,
Just for the heck of it, I went back to SU Make 15 which would not work before and it still didn’t work so I went in to i18n and changed to Google from http://, it worked but remember that along the way when we were trying things, it wouldn’t work before with that. This tells me that something else I did got it working, perhaps the addition of *.sketchup.com in my list of approved sites.

A fix to the Extension Warehouse logon is also being worked on Unable to Download STL plugin - #70 by michal.
