Old school training method for vray material

hi community,

what would be your suggestion for learning material generation in vray, in calculus 101 style?
i can already use ready materials, make a new one from a map-set and tweak them but i d like to use multiple render elements on mixed material layers and apply advanced properties. i am also aware that:

  • trial and error is a valid method
  • with all respect to the theory, it can be improved best when there is a real life project, a specific need
  • good textures are required for starters anyways

still, i hope to have an imaginary diagram of which property comes before, goes where as we know from blender, 3ds.. (which i am not currently familiar of)
