Hi, I’m having problems installing Sketchup 2024 on my PC at home. I have it downloaded on a desktop at the office and use it frequently, but would like to work from home when I can. I downloaded the installer, and set up a folder on my D: drive. Plenty of space there, 1.66TB. I keep getting an error message however. “Package Sketchup 2024 Error: There is not enough space on the disk.” I verified that I was attempting to load to the correct drive and empty folder. Tried a few times, no luck. Any ideas out there?
Hello
What available space do you have on your C: drive ?
Even if you install on D which has plenty of space, available space is also needed on your C: drive where the temp folder is (by default) and sometimes additional content also has to be downloaded
Thank you both. Thats probably the issue. I’m very low on space in C: How much memory is required for the temp. folder and additional content?
Usually, it’s good to reserve twice the size of any install, so approx 2Go in this case
Having low space on your C: can lead to severe performance issues of your computer, I’d free more than that if I were you
Especially if you have 1TB+ available space on D which is most oftenly named “DATA”, move pictures, important downloads, any big folders onto it
You can also modify system variables so that heavy stuff is automatically stored there
Thanks Paul. Working on that now. Did find a huge collection of Autodesk folders that I was able to delete and removed Sketchup 2018. Hopefully this should help.
Autodesk often uses C:\Autodesk for installation files that can be very heavy and are not always automatically removed when uninstalling their products. If you don’t pay attention it can occupy plenty of space, for nothing
Another thing to know is that, depending on your setup, it may be better for performances to install a software on C:
Many computer manufacturers sell desktop (or laptops) with a rather small SSD (way faster) where windows is installed, along with a big HDD (those old magnetic turning disks) with variable rpm, for DATA
Again, I don’t know your setup, it could be one single drive split in two, but you may have a smoother experience if installed on C:
Evidently I freed up enough space on C: to install. Successful install, but now, when I try and open the program I get the Sketchup icon on the task bar, as if it’s opening, but that’s all. It doesn’t seem to want to open fully on the desktop. f I hover the mouse on the icon I see that it’s the software agreement, but it’s not large enough to do anything with.
do you have multiple screens ?
I haven’t installed or used Autocad or any Autodesk software in almost more than a decade, but I remember that it created some files and folders that were imposible to get rid of, it didn’t even let me open some folders. The only way I could delete them was formatting my machine and install everything again included the OS.
No, single screen Paul. Rebooted the machine and tried again, no luck. Sketchup is loaded, icon on the desktop. Tried running it as admin, no luck. I’ve never seen this problem before.
Also tried turning off virus protection and opening the program as admin. Still no luck. The Sketchup icon appears on the taskbar as if the program has opened. When I hover the mouse over the icon I get the “Trimble Offering Terms”, but very small. Not opened on the desktop.
I’ve just removed and re-loaded the software without issue. Same problem as before.
Well, your computer really won’t let you use SketchUp, will it?
try to right click on the tiny window in which you see the trimble offering terms while hovering onto sketchup icon and pick “move”
hit any arrow once on your keyboard and move your mouse without clicking to see if you can make the window appear
Generally it sounds more like an issue with your PC than with sketchup itself.
Sounds like you need to really do a cleanup of the system.
also try pressing window key + tab
if you see the trimble agreement, right click on it and pick any option to dock it (right, left)
OK, more information. I tried opening Layout 24, and it works fine. It gave me the initial software agreement page that Sketchup 2024 was trying to open, but in normal size. I clicked the agreement and opened Layout normally. Went back and tried to open Sketchup, and it’s still just opening on the task bar, small format. At least now the page it’s trying to open is “Welcome to Sketchup”. I also noticed that some of the icons on my desktop disappear when I I’m trying to open the taskbar icon. They re-appear after I move the mouse off of the Sketchup icon.
