New Windows CPUs.. Intel Core Ultra versus AMD x3D

Just a few thoughts from me really…

I’m seeing some really interesting reviews of the new Intel “Ultra” CPU series.

It seems the single threaded performance is really impressive, while being power-efficient.
However, the CPUs don’t do too well with gaming workloads.

Intel have stated that , due to high costs, they won’t be manufacturing future their CPUs along the same process. So we may have a short window in which to purchase them. I’m certainly tempted as it’s the closest thing that Windows is likely to have to the Apple M3 chips.

But I would love to know how this theoretical performance translates to SketchUp/LayOut. The high-spec versions of the CPU are difficult to get hold of. But I would love to know if anyone here has tried them.

Alternatively the updated Ryzen 9 X3D line from AMD is smashing through all the gaming and multi-core benchmarks. It’s very strange how some games are getting massive boosts from the chip’s unique 3d Cache. I wonder if SketchUp might be included? Though the single-threaded performance is not too strong according to the Charts.

Dang, I really was hoping someone with knowledge would have chimed in here. I’m torn on what cpu to put into my next build.

Don’t overthink it. Anything in the top part of the single thread performance chart will run SketchUp well. Unless you are heavily into CPU-based rendering the number of processor cores is not very important so you can pick, for instance, the cheapest.

careful with KF versions of intel processors, for example the third in the above list.
They don’t have an integrated graphic chipset so you’ll need a dedicated GPU along them

Well, I would think that no one building a computer for SketchUp or gaming would omit a dedicated graphics card.
