New here and need some help

sorry , I just re read this message ignore my last one

No. I use make 2017. I do not have access to Layout. In Layout they would use viewports I believe and export them from SU to Laoyout.

ok cool. Thanks everyone, I’ll get to this and I’m sure I’ll be back with more dramas. Thanks everyone

scuse my ignorance… whats SU ???

SketchUp

No one has mentioned using SketchUp’s Scenes.
Once you have a camera view set as you want [any view type], with a suitable zoom etc, then you need to save it to a new Scene tab.
Then you can use that Scene in Layout later…

Hi Tig, I think they are being gentle with me as I do my head in with all this…

Yes I was trying to show you how to show an orthographic view in MAKE. I know little about Layout. Scenes will not show orthographic layout on a single window in SU unless the scene is made up with 3 views. (I don’t think)

OK… I can’t seem to find where I can get the pro version … wish there was a number I could just call (in Australia) and talk to someone. How long does it take to get it ?

You can download the pro version immediately.

ok just found this … 3D Modeling Software Pricing | 3D Design Program Cost | SketchUp
if it was worth it I’d get this where it reckons you don’t have to keep buying a subscription

but I want to get the student version , anyway, i’ll keep digging…

Look on that page under products. I do not know how much an annual upgrade is.

Here is the reseller for Australia, you can probably call them.

I don’t know if SU Education included Layout, you will need to check.

You can also fake an orthographic view ‘ish’ in a single window.

thank you. You are on fire. I just found that Aussie contact and emailed them so I am hoping they reply and call me. You guys are a life saver.

Thanks, when I am supposed to be working, I end up coming on here and helping people. Ultimate form of procrastination. Avoiding work by doing more work.

Clarity: Not day job work… it’s 2313 here, just in case my office comes across this post :joy:

I was just about to ask you what time it was there. I really appreciate your generous participation.

its 9:16am here in NSW, Aus  It’s 23 deg celcious and I should be out riding my motorbike but instead stuck on my computer doing urgent uni stuff

You can get the orthographic in SketchUp, but LayOut is built for it and does it better. Sketchup is a modeling tool and LayOut is a documentation tool.

As TIG mentions, you need to create scenes in SU with the views you require to show in LayOut. Here’s some scenes I put together just now from a little project I did. There’s a whole lot more to it but this is the basic principle…

You can then send the model into LayOut and distribute the scenes as you wish, onto one, or more likely several pages. You can add text and dimensions in a much more professional looking way than SketchUp can. You can also have the border/title block you mention.
At first LayOut appears to be very basic, but is deceptively deep and full of functionality. I found out there’s some great advice available on this forum too…

One thing I failed to mention: While you can do the multiview drawing trick in the online versions of SketchUp (SU Free and SU for Schools) you can’t make any printed or PDF output to scale with it. You can produce printed output to scale with SketchUp Make, however.
