New Graphics Engine - Anyone else getting bugsplats with it?

The only thing different is the Ambient Occlusion and Environments. Everything is the same as always. Give people credit for understanding what the problem is. There are no bug splat messages with most of these crashes. You are lucky to get a recovery file. I think SketchUp knows the issue and if they had someone in these forums they could give accurate information. I have been using SketchUp for almost 19 years and am very familiar with it’s behaviors and what crashes it. I am telling you what the problem is. I am asking if anyone else is experiencing this. It must be an issue of they have a custom message addressing it.

The last bugsplat I can find from you is from April. Did you send in more after that?

For the crash in April, something was added to the next update to help with that particular issue. Have you sent in any bugsplats since updating to version 25.0.660?

by the way Tony, part the help anyone provides is based on the infos they have, and your profile is outdated.
are you still using sketchup 2020? with window10 and a RTX 2060?

here is a guide on how to update your profile so people can help you.

I am not getting a bug splat option on every crash. Sometimes it’s just a crash but thankfully I am getting a recovery file though. Most crashes are true, just gone, crashes. I will say on some smaller house models it sems to survive but on larger townhome projects I am working on, it is worse.

I updated it but in my original post mention the equipment I am using and have the exact problem and asked if anyone else was experiencing the same issue.

No, I am not having the same issue.

Me neither..

I’m spartac… oh wait, me neither

Me neither. No bug splats.

Many, many third party extensions installed.

Thanks, are you using any third party plugins?

I have tested SU 2025 on my brand new PC and what I found a bit odd was that it worked fine with the new graphics engine but did crash a couple times running the legacy engine. My new PC is running Windows 11 Pro and has some really decent specs.

As far as feed back I am getting from my extensions customer base, it does seem like that there are more bugsplats recently, but I don’t have any hard numbers to back that up with. Usually I am contacted by email asking are my extensions crashing their system and I respond that they should try switching between the graphics engines in SketchUp and see if that might resolve the problem. It does seem like switching does resolve the issue in most cases.

What would be interesting to me is if SketchUp would be willing to publish the bugsplat numbers for each version or subversion of SketchUp. If the underlying stability is from a new feature in SketchUp then it would be really nice to know that information so that I can relay that to my own customer base.

This is pretty much my whole plugin folder, with the antique Windowizer and V-Ray missing from the list

off course, a lot.

great, now we’ve established that we don’t have a problem. still don’t know all the specifics of your problem though.

Are you switching to a style or scene with AO / environments or the new materials when this happens? Are you using the new materials / AO / environments while modeling or just for scenes to send to LO.

So you will switch to Revit? But for now what is keep working without using the new features that are potentially causing the crashes? Because I assume you were working in 2024 before these things were available…

In my honest opinion one of the biggest problems is model bloat. Even with a good system if the model size climbs too high it will impact performance and ultimately lead to more potential bugsplats. My best advice for anyone using SketchUp is do your best to keep your models lean and mean.

If my model is over 25Mb, it is too large in my opinion and either needs to be seriously purged or broken into separate models. I know this may be unrealistic for some.

But as you know Nathaniel I have been using SketchUp for around 19 years and your extensions for a long time also and had no problems until the new graphics engine of 2025 version. I am trying to tell people what the problem is (Ambient occlusion and new Environments) but no one will listen  I keep saying if I turn these off, no splats, if I turn them on, splats. Your a good guy, I know you will listen  Some engineer at SketchUp also knows because they put a message in after the crash, when I restart Sketchup, to change back to classic graphics engine in preferences. That is the key here. The new Ambient Occlusion and Environments plus new materials, look at that. When I don’t use these, no splats, when I turn on new graphics engine and use ambient occlusion and new environments, splats. I have studied this for a few months now. You know I use SketchUp daily and on decent size projects also. I do agree with project bloat but never had the problem until new graphics engine+new environments and ambient occlusion. I’ll keep saying it until some SketchUp programmer sees it and fixes it:)

I have a whiz bang RTX 4070 and 32G ram with intel9 multicore processor. Again, no problems until new graphics engine introduced with 2025.

that is an automated message. no engineer wrote that message specifically for you. anyone having a crash related to the engine will get it.
(it’s the third time — or fourth? — I’m telling you)

new graphics engine was introduced in 2024 though.

However, earlier in this thread, a sketchup engineer actually asked you a couple of question.

Dude, you are obviously trolling from the start. I see your profile pic. Are you here just to cause trouble? I know no one personally sent me a message. It is automated message but it did not create itself. The error message was designed for people who are facing what I am facing. It is telling people to change back to the classic graphics engine after the crash. Just ignore my issue. I will not respond to you again. You have been rude from the start.

good, I see yours.

any crash. just not yours. how do I know it ? I’ve seen it quite a lot, whenever I try - and manage - to reproduce the bug someone is describing, or when my students try to use the new engine on obsolete machines, or when I beta test. it’s basically been a standard message for the past 2 years, when in doubt, switch back to openGL. not a solution though, just a way to allow people to keep working.

I’ve asked questions - most of them unanswered, pointed that two sketchup employees asked questions - still unanswered. at this point really, the only time you went my way is when you updated your profile.
but yeah, I’m trolling.

— not sure what my profile picture has to do with the sauerkraut though. it’s a really good photoshop—
