My Architectural Drawings, Renderings and Animations

Merry Christmas Guys!
Currently I work with Enscape. And I re-rendered my old project “little vactation house” which I rendered some time ago with Lumion. I placed a Christmas Tree and Santa Claus in two scenes.

Main Lighting comes from the Hdri in the background (from poliigon.com).
Rendertimes (uhd) just a few seconds, Rendertime Animation (uhd) few minutes.

I am surprised you couldn’t find a site with better views

And here are some Renderings with snow, made with Lumion:

Hello Guys,
It always is a pleasure, seeing a building grow - and seeing that the design decisions made on basis of the 3d model and the results shown in the renderings turned out to be right in real life. And of course that the construction-workers put up everything togehter right as shown in the construction documents.

In this case I did the basic 3d model and construction documents with Allplan (I need to use this software at my work), but refinements and interior modelings with SketchUp. Renderings with Lumion.

The Photos are done at the “Richtfest”. This means the celebration of the work of the carpenter. I then did the two renderings with similar angles (but of course I also did a lot of other renderings in the earliler design process).

greetings, Peter

This btw, is a snippet out of the construction documents, i did with Allplan:

Another Rendering with Lumion:

Like it.

Funny - In Finland the spruce on the roof would mean that the owner has forgotten the celebrations and the beer. At the actual topping out there would be a Finnish flag

We have exactly the same tradition, reaching the highest point, not all principals are aware, though and beer at the job site is not allowed (anymore?)

When we do explain the tradition, they usually come by and we would replace the branch with the flag the next day…

Love seeing the real and digital side by side.

I learned of the tradition of the tree for topping out ceremony for timber framers here when I did a timber frame with Benson Woodworking (they now go by Bensonwood). Steel erectors also do it, but I find it odd to honor a steel frame with a wooden tree. Conventional “stick framing” for most residential construction doesn’t usually have this tradition.

When my brother spent a year in Taiwan, he had a Japanese girl friend for a while, and I remember a bunch of photos for a ceremony after a ridge beam was placed where everyone gathered, lots of food was involved, and a priest climbed all the way up to bless the ridge beam. Being an international bulletin board, maybe someone here from Japan can say more about that.

Very nice to read/learn about the ceremonies in different countries! :grinning:

Quite some time till my last post…Hope you all doing well!
I´ve been busy with a new Job and learning Archicad. But now I´m back with SkechUp in my free Time. I also switched my Rendering-Software. From Lumion to TwinMotion. My First Attempt with it, following, without any post-work in Photoshop. (I made the shown Model some years ago with SketchUp).
I really liked working with TwinMotion. Fast & Intuitiv.
Greetings, Peter

Hi Peter what was the learning curve going from Lumion to Twinmotion? I’m considering the same switch.

First I viewed a lot of Tutorials, after that working with TM was very intuitive and I made these Renderings in maybe two afternoons. But at the moment I´m watching again some Tutorials. And of course I need to learn a lot more stuff, and practice a lot…
For example: The Grass in my Renderings is to high, but it was not possible for me, to lower it. And as I reloaded my model from SketchUp (after a change in the model) inside TM, the grass was completely gone.
The Learning curve till now, coming from Lumion, was flat.

Yeah, TW is quite simple to grasp, when I do training sessions on it, it’s usually 1 day - 7h - and it includes a lot of goofing around planting trees on roofs and making cows processions.

the main “issues” I see are the camera movement that are different from SU (you’ll zoom in the midpoint whereas in SU, you zoom on your cursor) and as Peter says, sometimes reloading the file with a modification will break some changes you made.
(and off course, it’s not in SU’s interface like enscape or Vray, it’s a separate software)

But I recommend it, I’m willing to accept its limitations and quirks since it’s free.

Oh, that meens the only workflow is, to separate the terrain from the building? And to import two models inside TM?

in theory no. it should work fine with all in one.

but I’ve observed that it’s not a bad idea to separate - say - context and project into 2 files (simply copy / paste in place in a new one) then import both. they should have the same origin, meaning the same place in TW, and worst case if you reload one of the files and it breaks some materials / vegetation, it won’t affect the other one.

I did a short animation with Twinmotion “Animation First Try with Twinmotion (Lumen)”. First I tried it with Pathtracer but noticed, that everything is very flickering (propably Twinmotion renders this without denoiser), so I changed it to Lumen. But I´m not happy. The Shadows from the Tree at 0:08 looks rough and inside the building there are a lot of light-artifacts on the ground 0:36 an further.

Then I maximized the Lumen-Settings, but this had no effect. Then I turned all artificial Lightings off, but the artifacts still remained. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Don´t know whats wrong - has someone an Idea or Solution for this problem?

Greetings, Peter

Further tests:
I disabled HDRI Enviroment. Artifacts (interior on the floor) still remain.
I disabled Emissive Materials: Artifacts still remain.
I changed the floor material: Artifacts still remain.
