Hello. I am sure this has been asked many times, but this is my first post. I am a slow learner and have started downloading 3D models of my 2 cars I own. I want to render the changes on the Sketchup model, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do basic functions such as 1) snap model to the origin 2) make wheels and wheel arches larger diameter/lift or lower vehicle 3) modify roof angle and features. I had UG a year ago and managed to do basic functions, but SU seems to be challenging. Thank you in advance.

Snap to origin: downloaded models are components, so you have to double click in them to get inside the component, pick an inference point, then use the move tool to move it to the origin. Some people download components and immediately right click on the to explode (no longer a component). Depending on the model author, you may need to explode more than once. Then move as mentioned above.

Exploding components until you get the geometry you want, and if the model author DIDN’T make a wheel a component, shame on them, but you still can. Then use Tools-Scale, and scale up, typing in the exact scale factor you want. Try this car - it’s wheels are components. BMW 2002 | 3D Warehouse Wheel wells will be harder, but the same concepts hold.

You may want to look at some Extensions that would help you with this. User community: what extensions do you use to do stuff like this?
Bary,
You’re awesome and your time is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to learning and giving back to the SU Community. I will be trying this tonight after work/school.
Regards,
Matt
