Hello, uploaded tens of models, but now can not upload one. By klicking “Share link to this model” it starts to upload, opens window from where you can copy link, but writes “Could not create a link for this model. Check your connection or try again.” Nothing wrong with internet. Using highspeed cable connection. Other models seems to work and can upload some others as well. File status (cloud button) shows “saved offline”. I had this model on cloud few days back, but today couldn’t open it any more. Deleted and can’t upload anymore. Could the file size be the problem? It is over a 60MB.
Well, I uploaded it to Trimble Connect and created a link to it. It all worked fine for me. Here’s the link.
Due to all the geometry in your model it’ll be sluggish in the web-based viewer. Simplifying your model would help. That siding and roofing tiles are especially heavy.
Do you know what Trimble Connect server you are saving the file to?
BTW, I first fixed incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created and remain untagged. Probably not related to your issue but it’s still a thing to take care of.
Yes, I am aware of the difficult geometry of the siding and roof tiles. This model was requested with maximum detail. The various scenes have been saved with most of the tags that are not visible turned off, so that the model would be faster. I am still a beginner in Sketchup, please tell me more about tagging edges and surfaces. What is the purpose and how to do it? Can you recommend a video that explains it?
Do you know what Trimble Connect server you are saving the file to? Sorry but i do not. Anything to do with Asia, Europe etc (i have seen these options sometimes). In that case Europe i guess, because i’m from north europe.
You model could be much more efficient and with fewer edges and faces even with “maximum detail”. I think you could get your “story” conveyed with lighter objects. For example, your roof tile objects don’t really need so many entities.
And even if you must have geometry to show these tiles, if you had made the first one a component and copied that instead of groups, the file size would be smaller which would help. It wouldn’t reduce the number of edges and faces, though. There are other places such as the siding which would benefit from using components instead of groups, too.
Tags are primarily for controlling the visibility of groups and components. Untagged should ALWAYS be left active. All edges and faces should be collected into groups or components. The edges and faces should be left untagged and only groups and components should be give tags. When you start tagging geometry your work gets more difficult and you are more likely to create unexpected problems. This is especially true when you need to edit the objects in your model. Check the Help Center to start.
By default, any new raw geometry you create has the ‘Untagged’ tag. Before assigning tags, make sure you understand the process of making groups and components. Your models will be much more predictable if you refrain from assigning tags to entities like edges or faces, or changing the active tag.
Edit: A question for you. Do you have to supply a count for the number of bricks in the walls or the number of roof tile units? Does the siding come in panels like your groups?
That’s a lot of information to sink in, because english is not my first language. But i try. Thank You. I will process the video and help center later.
Bricks in the walls are essential. Bricks, door sills, windows, window lintels, roof modules, etc. are the products of a specific company that this model should show. The process of building a house are shown with scenes to show the client in what stages and in what order the house is built. All together, an animation needs to be created.
In addition: the model you uploaded shows a flower pedestal next to the foundation and the first row of bricks, which I had hidden with a tag and should not be visible in the scenes at all. Would it be possible to delete it from there?
I don’t see what it is you are referring to when I open the model in the viewer. In which scene are you seeing it? I didn’t add anything to your model. I am not expecting you to share this link with your client. I only posted it as an example but I don’t plan to keep it since it’s not my work. You should be able to edit your model and remove whatever content you don’t need.
I’ll take the model apart over the weekend and delete as much of what’s unnecessary as I can and upload it again and see what happens. Thank you, You were very helpful.
