I have imported my Cad file. I start tracing the walls etc , but each time I try and select a wall or use one of the tools the whole model jumps forward. I have to double click in open space to stop this other wise it just keeps on jumping forward and it takes ages to use a tool. Is there anyway to stop this jumping/zooming forward?
This sounds like the model has entities located very far from the origin (which is not unusual in imported cad files). You might try importing with the preserve origin option turned off. If you can share the skp here, we can examine it to look for the specific issue.
Thanks that would be a great help. I will try and upload the file.

There is a group in the model that probably has something to do with the imported CAD objects. ![]()
This group contains several other groups and component whose axes are about 70 meters further apart than they should be. This may be causing some problems for you. Explode these groups and components, see if that helps.
I can’t reproduce the particular issue you describe (I’m on Mac, could be windows-specific?). I notice some issues with the model, though.
The post base locations (I assume that’s what the squares with an X in them denote) all have their origins located far away from their contents, as @dezmo pointed out. You could try exploding and then regrouping them one-by-one and see if that fixes you issue. You might also replace them with instances of a single component, as they are all identical.
There is another strange issue: there are two tags both named “PLAN WALL”. Tag names are supposed to be unique! I don’t know how this happened, but it may be confusing SketchUp. You could try renaming one of them. Edit: one of them has a double-space between PLAN and WALL, so these aren’t causing an issue even though the choice of names suggests a user typo.
I noticed a lot of incorrect tag usage. Tags should be applied only to groups, components, and non-geometric objects such as dimensions and texts, not to edges and faces. However, I don’t think that is the cause of your issue.
The arrow points to all selected elements, or at least that’s what I intended to point to. ![]()
And you can explode it all up with one command, because I don’t think these internal groups would matter in this case, the outer group will hold all exploded group elements and the other already loose edges as well.
@dezmo suggested a good idea. Just be sure to understand that exploding the groups will leave loose edges and faces with tags on them. So long as you are just using the dwg as a reference for tracing new SketchUp edges outside the group, that should not be a problem. But for best practices, you should remove the tags from those edges and faces (there are extensions to do this for you, such as TIG’s Default Layer Geometry or Layer Watcher ).
Thanks dezmo for all your help. I will try your suggestions and see what happens.
Thank you so much for your advice. I will look at all my tags and adjust accordingly. Also look at your other suggestions, I must get this right now for further jobs. I may redo all my tags. Many thanks
Hi Dave
Thanks for your response and advice.
I have checked my Graphics card it’s the NVIDIA RTX A4000, had for about 5 years now, I have noticed my program has slowed down to acknowledge each instruction etc since it was upgraded to 2026. Maybe a time for an upgrade my machine ![]()
I have corrected all my Tag usage now.
I have now removed all the CAD file references from my drawing as I don’t need them anymore and it still jumps. I think the fault when I imported the DWG has embedded itself in the file.
Trying to weigh up the possibility to start from scratch again may save time in the long run.
Masny thanks
Allan
It would be worth checking that SketchUp is using your RTX, not integrated graphics. Have a look at Settings->Graphic. Also check whether you have the latest driver for your graphics (get it directly from Nvidia, Windows is notorious for installing drivers that are not compatible with SketchUp). While you are looking at graphics, you could try changing to use classic graphics engine to see whether that helps.
I have tried everything. I decided to try the same file in Sketchup 2025 and you won’t believe this there is no jumping. The file behaves normally. It must be something in the 2026 version causing this.
Any ideas? I may completely remove anything to do with 2026 on my machine and re-install, trouble is trying to find the 2026 hidden files.
Hi
Just an update. After exhaustive trying out various computations with Sketchup Tech, we worked out it was various extensions and downloading VRay when doing a clean install of Sketchup. When I did a clean install of Sketchup I unticked the boxes for VRay. When opening Sketchup I declined to copy my extensions from 2025 as apparently there are extensions on 2025 that are not compatible with 2026. No jumping and my Sketchup is running faster and smoother that before.
Thanks for all your help.
Glad you got it sorted.
