Trying to set up a “template” for my models. I have followed earlier posts to create a new blank model, update all settings, etc. and save to an alternate location; then use that model as a template, ensuring to “save as” upon opening.
The Model Info settings for length units, area units, volume units, angle units, and dimensions settings are all updated successfully when model is re-opened.
However, ANY changes to Text Settings are not saved to the blank model (i.e. Screen text font, font style, font size, Leader text font, font style, font size, Endpoints and Align to).
In fact (my experience/understanding is that) any changes to a model’s Model Info Text Settings do not work on a model basis:
The changes to the Text Settings are not saved to the model unless there are Text entities in the model. This is true for both Screen Text and Leader Text (i.e. the model does not save the updated Screen Text settings unless there is a screen Text entity saved AND the model does not save the updated Leader Text settings unless there is a leader Text entity in the model).
ALL changes to Model Info Text Settings do not apply to Text entities created after the changes to the settings. This simply means that I have to set the entity’s Text Settings every time anyways Update All Screen/Leader Text Settings buttons are not useful because I cannot create a template anyways for this setting.
Your profile indicates you are using the web based version. The instructions for creating a template in the desktop version do not apply to the web version. If you are just starting a new file each time you will get the basic SketchUp template that they supply.
You can create a “template” of sorts with the web version by opening a new file and making the desired changes. Then save that file to your trimble connect storage. Going forward, you would open that file instead of select a new file. Immediately use Save as to save it with a new file name for your model and then proceed to make your model.
Sorry. I didn’t make that clear. The text settings only apply to existing text in the web versions. The rest of my remarks on creating a “template” stand.
That’s what I started doing in SU Go. I made the template such as selecting the default style I use when modeling, went to model info and turned off length snapping, and set display precision to 1/64." I saved it as “Default Template.” Now I just have to remember to “Save As” when I start a new file.
Agree - text settings do not apply even between concurrent uses of 3D text - I have to reset the font, Height, and text extrusion EVERY time I choose the 3d Text command (Free Version)
