we are a German secondary school and cannot sign in to SketchUp for Schools.
Our Microsoft 365 tenant has active Microsoft 365 Apps for Students and Faculty licenses. “SketchUp for Schools” is present and enabled as an Enterprise Application in Microsoft Entra ID, and tenant-wide administrator consent for the delegated User.Read permission has been granted.
Nevertheless, users still receive the message that our school does not have access to SketchUp for Schools.
Could you please verify and, if necessary, register our school domains in the SketchUp for Schools domain database?
Hi @SchulIT, thanks for the post. I am happy to work with you to solve this. As Microsoft is the one that handles authentication, adding you to our database on our end will not actually do anything to help. I am however, able to look at other potential causes of the issue on our end but I will need some information to narrow down potential causes.
The usual causes of these issues are bad deployments, overzealous popup blockers and badcookies/cached files. In order to narrow it down, can you open developer mode in your browser and send me a screenshot of the console tab? I can usually get some information from that.
Also, can you verify if you are a k-12 school, k-12 district or if you are higher education? That info will also narrow it down.
thank you. I enabled third-party cookies and tested again in a regular Microsoft Edge window.
The console now shows:
Microsoft K12 status:
allowedClassroomAccess: false
isWhitelisted: false
It then returns “microsoft-no-access”.
We are a German K-12 secondary school (“Gymnasium”), serving grades 5 through 13.
Our tenant currently has active “Microsoft 365 Apps for Students” and “Microsoft 365 Apps for Faculty” products. However, I do not see an active Office 365 A1, A3 or A5 subscription under Billing → Your products.
The SketchUp for Schools Enterprise Application currently shows tenant-wide administrator consent for the delegated User.Read permission only.
Could you please confirm:
whether an active Office 365 A1/A3/A5 subscription is required for allowedClassroomAccess,
whether our Enterprise Application should request any additional permissions, and
whether our domain can be added to the SketchUp K-12 database given that isWhitelisted is currently false?
Hi @SchulIT and @JohanRytters. Thanks for the posts and sorry that you are having difficulties getting things up and running. I will do my best to get answers for you as soon as I can but I may need to call in an expert to get to the bottom of this one. I just sent a request and I will update you both as soon as I hear anything.
As for the domain database, if you are both using Microsoft to deploy the app, then you do not need to be added to it as Microsoft handles the authentication automatically so that means that something else is wrong. If you can get me a screenshot of the exact error message that would be helpful.
@SchulIT
Thank you for reaching out, I can confirm that an active Office 365 A1/A3 or A5 subscription are required for classroom access. As a secondary school you would be eligible, but would need to coordinate through Microsoft to obtain the appropriate account designations. While we aren’t able to alter the status of your licensing, I am able to recommend an alternative that may help your classes continue on as normal while waiting for any changes to your licensing contracts.
Outside of our SketchUp for Schools program, we offer a free web version of SketchUp that you can access directly at app.sketchup.com. It requires that users create a separate account to log in, but is available for free and has a user interface that is similar to that of SketchUp for Schools meaning that it should be relatively smooth for students to adapt to. For those using the SketchUp for Schools curriculum, the interface will also still be reasonably similar. You may notice that some of the tools and import/export options available in SketchUp for Schools are not included in SketchUp Free, but our core modelling tools are all available.
I hope that this helps as you continue working with your IT team, and if you need any further assistance with access or setup please feel free to reach out to us again.
Hi again
After asking to be accepted this turns up. It says waiting for the administrator to accept me. Answer will be sent to my email. I have tried this before but with no luck. Our IT support isn´t the Administrator for Sketchup so no one knows who is supposed to give me access.
