[Meta Quest 2] Unable to access local SKP files (No "Local Files" option in Viewer App)

Hello everyone,

I am a free web version user of SketchUp and was recently directed to this forum for support regarding an issue with the SketchUp Viewer app on my Meta Quest 2.

Problem Description: I am experiencing a persistent problem where I cannot access SKP files stored directly on my Meta Quest 2 device through the SketchUp Viewer app. Even though the app now successfully launches to the home screen, I cannot find any option or button (e.g., “Device,” “Local Files,” “My Device,” or similar) that allows me to select and open locally stored SKP files. The app primarily displays Trimble Connect-related menus.

My Environment & Actions Taken:

  • Device: Meta Quest 2
  • SketchUp Viewer App Version: Latest version available on Meta Quest Store.
  • Meta Quest OS Version: Latest available (confirmed updated).
  • File Transfer Status: I have successfully transferred SKP files from my PC to the Internal shared storage/SketchUp folder on my Meta Quest 2 via USB cable. The files are confirmed to be in this specific directory.
  • Connectivity Attempts:
    • Initially, I encountered a “no internet connect” error when launching the app.
    • I have since ensured my Meta Quest 2 is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. The “no internet connect” error no longer appears.
    • I have also attempted to log in to Trimble Connect via the app (which was successful), but this did not reveal the local file access option.
  • Troubleshooting Steps Already Performed:
    • Forced quit and restarted the SketchUp Viewer app multiple times.
    • Restarted the Meta Quest 2 headset multiple times.
    • Cleared the cache of the SketchUp Viewer app (Settings > Apps > SketchUp Viewer > Storage > Clear Cache).
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled the SketchUp Viewer app.
    • Confirmed sufficient storage space on the Meta Quest 2.
    • Searched extensively for “Open,” “Import,” or “Browse Device” buttons/options within the app’s home screen, side menus, and settings, but without success.

Question to the Community: Could anyone please provide guidance on how to access and open locally stored SKP files in the current version of the SketchUp Viewer for Meta Quest 2? Is there a specific gesture, button, or menu path I might be overlooking, or perhaps a recent UI change that I’m unaware of?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

KAZUYO ISHIDA

I have zero experience with it, however there is a link to official help pages ( if you haven’t seen it before…)

Hello Thank you for your reply!

Thank you very much for your reply and for taking the time to help me with my issue.

I appreciate you providing the link to the official help pages. I have actually already reviewed that resource thoroughly, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to address the specific problem I’m facing with the “Local Files” option not appearing in the app’s current UI.

However, I truly appreciate your effort to assist me. Your response confirms that the community is actively trying to help, which is very encouraging.

I will continue to wait for further insights from the community.

Thank you again for your kindness.

Best regards,

KAZUYO ISHIDA
