Medeek Truss Challenge

I uploaded a model drawn with Medeek extensions here.

I’ve been trying to improve at modeling complex roofs using Medeek Truss and I thought it might be fun to have a Roof Build-off to see how others would approach a Craftsman style home.

I would be very curious as to what roof configurations are being built with the extension. When it comes to complex roofs there is always more work to be done.

While not complicated to get this look, trying to make it out of SIPs has been interesting to say the least.

Another SIP roof with glulam beams for the ridges and the SIPs spanning from the ridge to the eave. 4’ wide panels with splines at the panel joints. Getting the valley beams, glulam’s in place has been a bit challenging. :man_shrugging:

This was one of my first deep dives into Medeek plugins. The challenge was trying to give the client what they wanted within the zoning restrictions (17’ to highest point).

There is. I drew this for the builder but it was too much money for the client.

Finished this one a few months ago. Waiting on the SIP engineering to come back for doing the roof in SIPs at least the great room. The wall quote for the SIPs was high. The contractor likes SIPs but is considering conventional framing.

The deck and stairs, Medeek wall/floor?

The railing, native or extension?

I use mod objects a lot in roofs, but we do mostly stick framing, so there’s tons of trimming, updating, and custom/subtract objects in our roof assemblies. The first couple of roofs we designed were basically all hand done with components by the time it was over, just used Medeek Truss as a template. Such was the case with this stick framed gambrel roof: the lower and upper rafters connect and rest on a knee wall that meets their intersection.

In the beginning I was confused. The wall assemblies go together so easily that I sort of thought of the different levels of walls as complete assemblies, but they’re not. The levels, the roof, the floors, and sometimes the foundation are assemblies of assemblies. Sometimes we have to spend as much time making the assemblies meld together as we do drawing them, if not much more.

I turn mod objects (custom/subtract) a transparent red and blue and put them on a specific layer. It’s funny to see a big blocky mess when I turn on the visibility.

What would that look like for you guys?
How are you making all these Medeek assemblies (primarily roofs) fit together in a cohesive constructable system?
What are you NOT drawing with Medeek BIM?

I did one once – precast concrete plank in a reverse brick shelf with a poured in place concrete topping over the planks.
