So, I have a model in SketchUp Go (not Pro version - yet but I am considering upgrading…) where I am trying to export out a view of the model that would match an image I saved from looking at google maps. Ultimately, I am tryin to take the Sketchup model and the Google street view image and overlay them in Photoshop to create a captivating image (for myself - not for a commercial project). How can I do that? Because every time I think I have the camera right in SKP I export, overlay in photoshop and it’s off.
Also, I have tried to place a camera in SKP at a certain height but it doesn’t seem to keep the height when I move around the model.
Does Go allow you to import photos for textures? Or can you add watermarks in styles?
For textures - bring a screen capture in from street view, set on a plane rotate it vertical and scale to be approximate to your model. Then play with camera position and the lens field of view (in pro you can change this when using the magnifying glass once you get the camera positioned). Create a scene when it’s close. Tag the image rectangle and turn it off or delete it and export a PNG and composite in Ps.
For watermark method - bring in the image as part of a style you can use with a background / watermark. Adjust model by orbit and zoom and also camera field of view. Export and composite.
In SketchUp on the desktop you could import an image and use it as a watermark in the style but not in SketchUp Go. You could also import an image to use with Match Photo in SketchUp for desktop but not in Go. With a suitable image of the location that would be better than using the watermartk option.
Street view images from Google don’t tend to work well for Match Phot due to the lenses on the streetview cameras work. It is also worth considering that Google’s terms of use generally prohibit using their imagery that way. You should probably read their terms and if needed get legal council before using their images.
Thank you for the assistance! I will try out what you are all referring too. Do any of you know of any good online courses to take to learn rendering with sketchup? I am hoping to get some quality photorealistic renders some day - but i am not sure where i should invest my money/time. Would appreciate any advice you have!
SketchUp offers two courses for V-Ray on learn.sketchup.com, ie SketchUp Campus. It all depends on the extension/render app you want to learn.
Note: You first need to upgrade from SketchUp for Web to SketchUp Pro (ie for desktop). SketchUp Pro allows for extensions such as V-Ray, or Enscape (which has a bit lower learning curve depending on your level of realism you’re wanting to achieve).
