Fredo has Lord of the Toolbars which allows you create new toolbars with whichever individual icons from various other tools/extensions you’d like and place into those custom windows/palettes.
It also allows some fun customization keys like [your shortcut key choice] for last-tool-used (a la Autocad).
This means you can organize only the icons you really need, not always getting every icon from a tool-palette that the developer places in it.
Using Lord of the Toolbars (LOTT), I’ve streamlined my entire workspace down to a small cluster of buttons and a few hotkeys. Highly recommend giving it a try—it’s free.
I’ve set up hotkeys on my mouse to trigger pop-up toolbars that appear right next to my cursor and disappear as soon as the tool is activated. No clutter. If I so choose, I could set it up to hardly touch the keyboard, and have all the screen real estate I could ever need.
