Lost some groups and components in a model. I am trying to recover earlier versions of the model. I have consulted three videos, but I find that there is no “auto-save location” path in top menu File or Settings/SketchUp Preferences/General or /File Locations.
The components and groups that disappeared were very close to some close-in work and I did not notice that they had vanished. When I did, I did Undo repeatedly to no avail. I thought, if I close without saving it will revert. But that did not happen. Since reopening the file twice, I have no results form Unhid/All, View/Hidden Objects//Hidden Geometry, Tags/Off (none). File/Revert is grayed out.
I am imagining that there would be a succession of auto-save file and that I could get back to before the eclipse took place.
If the components were only deleted from the model space they should still be available in the In Model components. You would be able to drag in new instances of them. That’s one of the many benefits of using components as compared to groups. With groups, if they are really deleted from the model space and you don’t catch it right away, they are gone.
There wouldn’t be any incremental saves if you are saving locally unless you make a point of creating incremental saves. If you’ve saved the file previously there should be a backup file (with a ~ at the end of the filename) in the same folder as the .skp but it may or may not be old enough to go back to before your changes were last saved.
If you also save to your Trimble Connect storage there would be incremental versions created each time you save.
