Hi, I am looking for a sketchup deisgner/contractor to produce simple isometric drawings of UK buildings (primarily domestic) using a combination of Google Earth images, site photos and site measurements. Example below;
These will then be used by us to determine suitable locations on these properties for solar panels.
Look at sloped.io for vetted SketchUp pros.
This a great use for SketchUp. And once the simple isometric model is properly oriented, it is a simple matter to check for shading of the solar panels.
Two observations:
-
Google Earth is useful for orienting structures properly. But oftentimes it provides little (or no) information on building heights and roof pitches. Thus, for the model to be useful, it is imperative that correct dimensions for building height and roof pitch be from on-site measurements.
-
With latitudes of +50° in the UK … much of the year the sun is at rather low angles. Thus, shading from adjacent structures may also be an issue, particularly in dense, urban areas. And this may also require basic modeling of the adjacent structures.
I do this sort of SketchUp modeling from Google Earth, site photos and on-site measurements for a variety of commercial clients … all over the world. I will send you a private message with my contact information.
Regards,
E. Godsey
