Looking for 'remove unused/unwanted edges' plugin

My PC has just had everything re-installed. In the process, the guy uploaded S/U version 17 in place of the version 15 I had been running quite happily for several years. Unfortunately, the plugin: ‘remove unused edges’ has been lost. I don’t use S/U often and so tend to forget a lot of stuff, so it might have been: ‘remove unwanted lines’, or something similar. Anyway, I do recall that it was very useful, particularly for an incompetent like myself who makes mistakes by the shed-load!

It has been suggested that I look in SketchUcation for the above, but the plugin I was using doesn’t seem to be in there. I don’t really want to use anything else here, as I’ve read tales of similar ‘rubies’ either not working correctly, or screwing files up.

If it helps, the plugin was a freebie and seemed to work quicker if you highlighted the region of the model you wanted the duff lines/edges removed from.

Please help; I’m only designing a garden shed - pretty much my limit!

It shouldn’t be lost unless the HD was wiped. You should be able to find this and all other plugins you were using in C:\Users\owner\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\SketchUp\Plugins. Just copy it over to the 2017 folder and restart Sketchup.

FYI I changed the topic category to Extensions instead of SketchUp Free because that’s what the question is really about and SketchUp Free is the web-based version that does not yet support extensions or plugins.

Based on the limited info offered, I think the plugin you refer to is called “Cleanup3”. Click on the bold text to download the extension.

Also, please update your profile to include information about which version of SU is being used, your OS and graphics card. This information helps other users in providing specific assistance when needed.

Thanks, but the trimble password procedure is confusing & impenetrable. Just spent 20 minutes faffing with it.

Can you describe what problems you’re bumping up against?

Several links are provided below that may help to relieve your password issue.

HiIt knows my email (spogadog@btinternet.com), this is evident because it brings it up as soon as I type in the letter ‘s’.
It then tells me my password is wrong.
I go through all the faff of trying to set up a new password and it tells me something about an account already being associated with my email or something.
As I say, I just wind up going around in circles and, I admit, getting annoyed pretty quickly. Other sites: Amazon, my bank, and others are no hassle - even I can do it. What is it with Trimble and this gratuitous complication?

Because we can’t read the error response you get, the most effective method to resolve your issue is to correspond with SketchUp Technical Support or SketchUp Pro Support thru the previously provided links. In your situation, I would contact both of these.

They won’t help me because I am not Sketchup Pro!

Can ANYBODY help me to load this simple plugin? The Trimble password setting system is taking me round in circles. It is the worst system I have ever come across. It is impossible to reset passwords or regain access using it. I re-iterate: if my bank, Amazon and countless others can run an intuitive system then why can’t Trimble? I have now wasted an hour plus on this.

I do not encounter these problems.

StrayLines v.1.000 SketchUp Plugin by Todd Burch
Download Here … Smustard(TM) - the Companion to Sketchup(TM) - StrayLines

Installing ruby plugins with the .rb extension
Install the plugin by placing the Ruby script file into the appropriate folder, and then restarting SketchUp.

Windows 10 - the default location is:

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Plugins

Thanks to all, but I think I’ll just have to bail out on this one for the sake of my blood pressure and remove the lines manually!
I have tried most of the kind suggestions made by folk on this forum, but I always get so far and then it fails or goes into a loop again.
Certain people on this form have historically become very defensive when I suggest there are bugs &/or inconsistencies in Sketchup, but I maintain they exist. Myself, I am a digital ‘spud’ and not particularly bothered about it either! Despite having used this software for almost 10 years on & off I still find myself getting exasperated with it at some stage virtually every time I try & do stuff with it. Shame, because it has been a very useful tool on other occasions.
Can’t all be me!

Hey @spogadog,

But in all probability it IS you. Programs frustrate us when they don’t respond as we expect. The issue can be fixed in most cases if we are aware of the proper protocol, procedural sequence or plugin to use.

Remember that you need to clearly express requests for help so other users know how and what is needed as well. Sometimes a higher level of detail explaining the problem may be necessary or a screenshot showing what appears may be helpful.

I am surprised that neither recommended extension was helpful. I have used CleanUp extensively and it has never failed to get rid of stray lines or edges. It is also curious that the suggestion offered by @MikeWayzovski did not help you to recover or set up a new password because he presented a step by step tutorial to do so.

Ok. My last post on this issue:

  • Clean up is the one that leads me into all kinds of blind alleyways - the Trimble password tedium-fest that I have wasted over an hour in total trying to get round. I very much appreciate the assistance offered and the trouble taken by Mike, but the sequence he plotted out does not run that way on this machine.
  • The S. Mustard plugin offered by another forum member downloads then vanishes. It is supposed to appear in the S/U model is it not? Can’t locate it anywhere.
  • In the past I have had responses from senior Sketchup sages confessing to bugs that exist in this program that are not addressed. I guess the post is still in here somewhere.
  • The function that allows you to turn end-points on and off is now located within a sequence that is more ponderous to navigate than it was in the previous version I had: S/U 15. If I want to toggle this on or off I now have to click on Window, scenes and all the rest of it to get to the ‘button’ I need. Interestingly, in S/U 17 I have to go through this rigmarole twice every time, as the sequence never works first time around. What is that if it is not an error or bug?
I could go on, but I hope you get my point.

Thanks, once again for all the well-intentioned help guys.

Downloading places the downloaded file into the folder you have set it to download into, probably your Downloads folder. The plugin doesn’t install automatically. You will have to copy or move the file yourself into the plugins folder as instructed, using Windows Explorer, and restart SketchUp.
