I want to be able to scan a room to avoid pulling out a tape measure and then work with that using profile builder to add moulding options. Seems like it should be an easy thing to accomplish.
Yes it is. Just need SketchUp and a lidar-capable iPad.
You can scan a room with the SketchUp iPad app and a LiDAR capable iPad. You can then move that file to your desktop SketchUp to use profile builder on the scanned geometry (extensions don’t work on the iPad version).
However, the LiDAR scan to geometry function supports a certain level of accuracy, often good enough for a basic record of a given space, but generally not enough for accurate as-built drawings and not accurate enough for a cut list. Assume plus or minus up to a few inches depending on the size of the scan. You may still need your tape measure.
I have the latest iPad 13” and trying this. I was wondering if the embedded scanning in sketchup can do the same thing that would require a subscription with roomscan pro or polycam or magicplan. Those apps are $10/mo for something I would not use on a regular basis. I’d pay a lifetime license if reasonable.
I just downloaded the canvas app for iPhone and the cad drawings are what I’d like to be able to use in sketchup to avoid the drudgery of creating that work and skip to design work including designing and building something like a built-in, a coffered ceiling or a wardrobe built in. It appears that the canvas app does this and sketchup enhanced by canvas won’t. Correct?
