Ok, so I am now up and running with the renaming of the “PrivatePreferences.json” file.
I have not tried to reload the “Fredo6 FredoTools” yet.
Do you think it is safe for that, too?

First of all you now have a copy of a corrupted preferences file. Keep a copy of that so that Colin or some Trimbler can see it if need be.
Well, if they for some reason are corrupting the JSON file, reloading them (one by one) until you get crashes again is a good way to verify that they (or one of them) are causing the corruption.
You now know the way to cause SketchUp to regenerate the preferences file, so it would be helpful to verify. It is called “reproducing an issue” in software testing.
I have previously warned the SketchUp team that mixing extension attributes (written by 3rd party extension code) in with native settings in the preferences file(s) could be problematic. Also too many separate categories of settings are “eggs in the same basket” and cause everything to be reset if we must delete or regenerate these files. Ie, toolbar settings, tray & panel settings, dialog metrics, previous feature options (like print options or export options per filetype, etc.) If one of the categories gets corrupted, we end up losing all previous settings.
So… After doing the above and Sketchup working flawlessly, I installed FredoTools and its all good!
Thanks to DanRathbun! You are awesome!
Okay. cool! Keep a eye on it if the crashes recur.
Here is the response from the Dev Team:
“Our devs are aware of this and there is a fix planned for the next patch update. Please update SketchUp as soon as it becomes possible to do so. This bug seems to affect users with multiple monitors. Can you please try working with a single monitor as the temporary workaround until a patch release is available.”
