Is there a way to get all the old materials without going into an old drawing and grabbing them? I need the blue tile, the seamless grass not the new weeds one and water. Maybe others… I guess I can just export or copy paste them them but it might be nice to have a folder with the old materials?
An easy way:
- Go to c:\programdata\sketchup\sketchup 2024\sketchup\materials
- Right click on the materials folder and then click on copy
- Now go to c:\programdata\sketchup\sketchup 2025\sketchup\materials and right click and then click on paste
- Now rename the folder you just passed in to something like Legacy Materials
Now when you are in SketchUp 2025 and you go to the Materials Tray you can click on the down arrow and select the Legacy Materials folder and you will see the list of folders from your older version of SketchUp
Hope this helps you. ![]()
also, they’re here
As you are on Mac, and while Mac is doing its own way of handling materials, you can go around various models and sample the materials you want. After sampling a material you can drag the larger thumbnail in the bottom left of the Colors palette, into the set of small swatches. As soon as you have it in the swatch set it is then available in other models, or other versions of SketchUp.
You could go on to make a new list (from the right side menu in Colors), and drag each of the small swatches into the new list. Then you can use that list instead of having to keep the set of small swatches.
One useful thing to know is how to remove the small swatch entries. You would drag one to the Mac Trash or Wastebasket that is in the Dock.
no way.
how… what ? this is so weird.
It took a good amount of Google searches when I first figured that out.
