Layout rounding issue when importing data from Excel (decimal mismatch)

I would like to report a potential issue with LayOut when inserting or updating data from an Excel file.

For example, in Excel I have a value of 1.19. When I round this value to one decimal place, Excel correctly displays it as 1.2.

However, when I insert or update this data in LayOut, the value is displayed as 1.1 instead of 1.2. This creates a mismatch between the Excel data and the value shown in LayOut.

This issue can affect quantity takeoff, measurements, and other calculations where accuracy is critical.

I have attached a short video to demonstrate the problem clearly and show the workflow step by step.

Has anyone experienced the same issue, or is there a known setting or workaround to ensure LayOut uses the same rounding logic as Excel?

I see the same sort of thing after rounding the values in a spreadsheet to one place beyond the decimal. Sometimes the value is correct in LayOut but other times, not.

Thanks Dave. I hope this can be fixed soon. I was quite shocked when I discovered the numbers were different. For now, to be safe, I am taking screenshots from the spreadsheet and pasting them into LayOut instead of linking the data directly.

Out of curiosity, where are you getting the numbers in the first place? My table was created as a cutlist from a SketchUp model. I changed the Display Precision to one place right of the decimal and exported a new file. That one displays with the same rounding.

Not a fix for the issue but if you need the ability to modify the table and you want vector text rather than a raster image, maybe adjusting the precision of the source data before getting to Excel would be a better work around until they fix this.

Theses numbers come from normal project tabulation and calculations done in Excel. This rounding issue is extremely dangerous in real projects. Even a small mismatch like this can cause serious problems when submitting documents for legal or regulatory approval, and it can potentially break an entire project. :face_with_head_bandage:

Thanks for sharing this information:hugs:.

Yes. That’s already been established.

Which version of SketchUp/LayOut are you actually using? Your profile says “SketchUp for Web (Free only)” and “2018 Desktop”. Does that mean you are actually using a cr acked version of SketchUp? The web version doesn’t provide access to LayOut.

Read this thread. This will need to be addressed by the developers. Of course when they fix it, it won’t change in 2018.
