Have you tried the latest release of SketchUp/LayOut?
This should be fixed for most machines with the latest maintenance release of 2017 - try downloading and installing a new copy of SketchUp and let us know if you still have the problem.
Thanks,
M
Yahoo! It works! So no need for creating backgrounds any more. Thx :smile
Hi Marc,
I’ve been made aware of a SU2017 Pro user who is experiencing very similar symptoms to those described above while using a new Mac. The particular GPU does not seem to be mentioned anywhere above, but this may be due to a difference in naming convention (we are in Australia). Could you please let me know if there is a known fix for this problem for the system described below? The user insists that they have installed the most recent version of SU.
Thanks in advance,
James

Could you ask the user to tell you the exact version of SketchUp that they’re using?
Good Morning Marc,
the user has SU 17.2.2554 installed.
Cheers,
James
Hi James-
Sorry for the delay getting back to you.
We fixed this issue for LayOut 17.2.2554 by identifying the exact video cards that have the issue, and then using an alternate method for drawing that’s a bit slower but guarantees good quality. The video card in this machine is in the same family of cards that experiences the problem, but we don’t have this specific model number in the list that triggers the work-around. So, that’s somewhat bad news for your user - he/she will need to use some of the other workarounds suggested in this thread (adding backgrounds, etc). We will make sure that we properly handle this card in our next release of SketchUp/LayOut.
The graphics team here is doing some brainstorming to see if they can come up with another way to get things working for your user in the meantime.
Thanks,
Marc
Hi Marc,
Glad to hear there is a fix in the pipeline. I will pass this information on to the user. Many thanks to you and your team.
Cheers,
James
I am having the same problem. Seems like I had a similar problem in the past with a different machine. This is a brand new computer, and I checked the compatibility requirements before I bought. I read the above ‘fix,’ and will go with that for now, but I am surprised that SketchUp and Layout are suffering from the same problems in different builds.
On a separate note, any progress on multi-thread processing in layout?
Here are the specs on my machine / graphics card. I look forward to a fix.

Hi Marc,
Is there any way for you to let me know when a fix does go live? If yes, I will pass this information onto the affected user.
Cheers,
James
Hi James-
I’ll try to remember to post an update on this thread, but your best bet
would be to subscribe to the SketchUp newsletter
https://blog.sketchup.com/article/stay-updated and check the release
notes when you see a new version get announced.
Thanks,
M
Hi. We still have this problem in April 2018, tried both version 17.2.2554 and the latest, problem persists in both version. Is there any fix coming up for the Sketchup 2017?
Thank you.
KR/Sanna
Version 2018 has been out for about half a year already. I understand that version 2017 will not have new upgrades. Why don’t you switch to the latest version?
Because we’re a whole company and have automated manager system keeping care of all our applications, we haven’t finished the tests for 2018 and are periodical switch usually are in the autumn, that usually takes care of all he earlie bugs and “child deases” and when we make the package we know exactly what we get.
When you have 30 licenses you have to be sure that it really works before you can upgrade. Thank you though for the advice, we are looking into that solution.
Can you tell me what video cards are installed in the machines that are having the issue?
Thanks,
Marc
We are using Radeon Pro 570 having resolution 5120*2880 Retina.
What version of OS X?
We believe that this issue was fixed by Apple in High Sierra.

Ok, I believe I have a workaround for you. I will PM you directly.
