Layout crashes every time I relink or update view port. Need help purging unused items.
Is it crashing with a Bug Splat? Are you sending them in with your e-mail address and name attached? Or is LayOut just closing? Or is it just showing “Not Responding”?
Share the file so we can help you.
Are you still using SketchUp 2022 as your profile shows?
I am using 2024 SketchUp & layout. It lets me relink the model, but when I try to update the model, it sends a bug splat. It seemed to have started when I just recently updated SketchUp 24 again. I will add the 2 files shortly.
Please update your forum profile.
Where are your files saved while you are working on them?
Will do. I think that is my problem. I move them back and forth through google drive so that I can work from two separate computers.
Here is the link. My layout file is large. I know I have a lot of unused items, I’m still learning practical processes how to keep everything clean. Let me know if you can’t access it through this link.

That could be a problem.
I’ve got both files. I’ll take a look and see what I can see.
You should remove the files from your link. The LO file has client personal info. Well, your personal info.
Good point. I just removed
It’s crashing for me, too. I see some issues with your SketchUp model that might be involved but I there’s something else going on in the SketchUp file that I can’t pin down. It might be that @coling and @adam can identify what is causing the problem from your Bug Splat reports if you’ve been sending them in. I’ve been stripping the model down trying to figure out what the issue is. So far I haven’t found the culprit. Unfortunately I’m going to run out of time shortly. I’ll have to try digging into it some more later. Some of the issues with your model are not related to the crashing. If you’re interested in those I’ll come back later and share that with you.
No problem Dave thank you for your help!
Sorry I haven’t found the bad player.
I think it is the layout file. I have linked previous versions of the SketchUp model and other SketchUp models and it gives the same response.
I’m starting to thingk the same thing. I wonder if the simplest thing is to start over on the LO file.
Ah … I didn’t catch that you weren’t saving Style properties with the scenes. At least now you know what it is and can deal with it. Hopefully they’ll fix the bug soon.
Thanks for sharing that info.
Generally I find it most useful to save all of the scene properties with the scenes. It makes for more consistent behavior between SketchUp and LayOut and eliminates unwanted changes to the viewports in LayOut after edits.
Those properties get unticked with Match Photo so you have to tick the boxes before creating new scenes.
Thanks for sharing this. I had the same issue on our Standard Construction Details file. Contains some 35 individual details. Did NOT want to have to start over on that. And it was just ONE scene that didn’t have Style and Fog checked. Fixed!
