Layout crashes almost every time I update the SketchUp model

I believe this may solve my issues! Like IanW said, I was save everything locally but it also says one drive. This helped me:

If you want SketchUp (and everything else) to stop showing OneDrive in the path:

Option 1 – Move folders back to local “real” locations

  1. Open File Explorer → right-click Documents (or Desktop, Pictures, etc.) in the sidebar.

  2. Click Properties → Location tab.

  3. If it shows a path inside OneDrive, click Restore Default → then choose Apply.

    • Windows will ask if you want to move your files back — say Yes.
  4. Repeat for each folder (Documents, Desktop, Pictures, etc.).

Option 2 – Manually save outside OneDrive

  • When exporting/saving in Layout, browse to:

    C:\Users\YourName\

and save into a folder you make yourself (like SketchUpProjects).

  • This avoids the OneDrive path entirely.

I am having real issues with Layout 2025 here too. I have a small ancillary dwelling project (45sqm) and the Sketchup File size is 6.9MB fully optimised and purged. Similary I have a seperate, VERY simple site model which is only 1.7MB in size. Loaded into Layout I am getting like 5-10 minute hang every time I try to update the SketchUp reference. Similarly panning around the drawing trying to snap dimensions is SUPER sluggish and delayed.

I am using an M1 Macbook and recently upgraded to SU 2025, before that I was running SU 2023 and had absolutely no issues working on much larger and way more complex models. Is this a SU 2025 issue? Am i better off downgrading back to SU 2023? I really cant work like this..

I am on the verge of going back to SU24. Unfortunately I have done a bunch of projects on 25 so I will need both on my system. But on a WAY less capable Win 10 machine (it was not upgradeable to Win 11) SU24 rarely crashed.

I upgraded the computer, nothing but crashes. Upgraded the graphics card from “SketchUp minimal” GeForce 1030 to a “SU recommended” RTX 3060. Got rid of OneDrive which I was using the same way on the old computer. Loads of crashes using Layout.

Now I am being told it’s how I am using SU, which is probably correct, but SU24 didn’t mind and SU25 can’t handle it.

So I agree with you - there seems to be something wrong with SU25 - less stable in some way.

Sorry I can’t offer an actual solution.

Ian.
