I have noticed a small bug when using the eyedropper tool in Layout 2025. The normal operation of the eyedropper tool is to
select the eyedropper tool
choose the entity you wish to copy properties from
the cursor changes to a paint bucket
choose the entity you wish to paint properties onto
I have noticed that if you are not on the pick tool (arrow cursor) before selecting the eyedropper, then in step 3 the cursor does not change to a paint bucket, rather goes back to the tool you were on.
For some reason this happens for all tools except pick, move, rotate, scale, knife and glue.
My work around is to make sure I always select the pick tool before selecting the eyedropper.
Here is a video showing this phenomenon…
I’m not sure I follow – you chose the Text tool for your example and what you are showing is expected behaviour…?
Actually I just checked Layout 2024 and using the Text and Style tool as you have in the video is as you are expecting but I that’s not what I would expect.
The normal operation of the style (eyedropper) is that it changes to a paint bucket after you select an object.
For me, it only changes to a paint bucket when the previous tool was one of a few tools (like pick/select). With other previous tools (like text) it changes back to the text tool rather than the paint bucket.
I hope that makes sense.
I have uploaded here another video that hopefully shows what I am experiencing more clearly.
You’ll see the paint bucket activates when the eyedropper is chosen after the pick tool but it doesn’t activate when the eyedropper is chosen after the text tool.
The select style tool (eye dropper) will now have three different behaviors depending on which tool was active before choosing the select style tool: “sample only”, “immediately apply” and “sample and apply”.
