For various reasons, I haven’t yet installed the latest version of SketchUp, particularly because of Layout bugs I experienced in the very first release of Layout 2026.
Anyway, for those of you using Layout 2025 — are you experiencing major viewport synchronization issues at the moment? Basically, the viewports are behaving like images, meaning they “crush” the model display inside them when resized. The scale isn’t reduced uniformly, but in whichever directions the viewport was resized. This results in a completely chaotic display.
I’ve tried everything: restarted my computer, requested a low-resolution render for the viewports, checked the viewport settings in the SketchUp Model panel, asked Claude AI and Gemini for help… Nothing works, the bug persists. And when I perform a “relink” to make sure the file paths are correct, an exclamation mark (!) appears and won’t go away…
Considering that LayOut 2025 hasn’t changed in more than six months, it wouldn’t be the first place to look for problems that just started happening. As Mike suggested, look at what has changed on your computer. Where you have saved the reference SKP file might have something to do with this, how you inserted the reference and which file you inserted can also be culprits. It isn’t unusual for Mac users to get the backup SKP file (with the tilde at the end of the filename) tangled up in things and that can create the issue you described.
Overridden scene properties in LO can also prevent updates to the SKP from appearing.
Thanks everyone for your answers — I finally installed SketchUp 2026 and went through all the graphics card settings so that performance would be handled exclusively by my NVIDIA card.
The only thing is, now I can’t export to PDF (via File/Export) without an immediate BugSplat crash. I’m getting by using Print to PDF, but the quality isn’t quite there: certain colors and hatching aren’t rendered properly. Has anyone run into this issue? I thought I might have imported corrupted images, so I purged, and followed diagnostic steps recommended by Gemini step by step, but nothing works.
